recommend a good drum machine?

I thought I'd asked this in the past, so went digging through my old post....couldn't find a topic on it....

Soooo, I think I might wanna try out some drum machines for live use, so I can play actual songs instead of just drone and noise, and hopefully run across some drummers who want to join me....

Anyone have a favorite, least favorite? Opinions? I'd probably want to program a decent amount of parts for each song. thanks y'all!

MPC 1000 maybe? So many ways to skin this cat.

I'm booty with the MPC and it's probably overkill for what you need... Check out any of the Roland/Boss Dr. Rhythms or one of the old Alesis things... They all have good drums for rock and some let you program a bass line in too... They are easy to use for stringing parts into songs and everything is saved when you turn it off... Look at Pawn Shops or CL...

yeah i remember the old thread about this... cheap one with realistic sounds that's easy to program, alesis SR-16. or if you already have an ipad just use software on that.

I had an Akai XR20 for a while. It was easy to program, but was kind of limiting in its sounds. All of them sounded small and too artificial. Probably fine for aspiring hip hop acts. However I can get better results from Logic's drum samples.

I actually just downloaded a drum machine app on my iPhone yesterday. Haven't messed with it too much, but it looks pretty great for a free app. It is called DM1 Drum Machine by Fingerlab. Not shabby at all if you don't want to spend anything. Definitely a good practice tool if nothing else.

I enjoyed my Korg electribe when I had it. But went all iPad for drum machines recently.

Teenage Engineering OP-1 is half drum machine half synth, and the sequencers are pretty cool (both programmed and random). You can also use your own samples in it.

Maschine is a good option if you want to lug your laptop around lol.

He just wants something to take to a solo gig to play over... I think an OP-1 and Maschine are too much and an Iphone is dorky at a show... Go for one of the classic Boss/Alesis...

A cheap option could be the Zoom MRT-3B (now discontinued). I had one for years. It has a good selection of drum kits, some of which are surprisingly realistic, and is super easy to program. They pop up on the used market for $50 - $100 bucks usually.

There is an Alesis SR-16 in Longmont for $75... Check pawn shops in Denver...

cewl. Just to try and save myself some searching time... does anyone know if you can program weird time signatures in any of these? Odd times: 5/4, 7/8, etc....?
