Hot Cake vs SS/BS Mini
Anyone who tried both, which one do you favor more?

Re: Hot Cake vs SS/BS Mini
I' ve only tried the Hotcake, bought it 12 years ago and it's still on my board. Sounds great at 15v with so little dirt that you can't really hear it, just a little added harmonic complexity. I think it works best with bright amps. Plenty of output. The more gain I add the less I like it. But some have got good results with it... ??
Prescence knob allows you to get a Marshally sort of midrange as well.

I'd say hotcake for a more chunky/crunchy higher gain sounds. Fuck for an all around useful pedal. Hotcake sounds good at low gain but has some weird fizz.

Yeah, hot cake does get kinda fizzy. Whereas fuck does not ever sound remotely bad.

Serious? I woulda said the opposite - hotcake is good for low gain and sounds fizzy and generally rubbish at higher gain! haha.

Not from my experience. Sound chunky and thick cranked. Some people complain about "muddiness" but it's good for brighter amps. Like el84's.

I think the Crowther stuff was designed specifically for AC-30's. Agreeing with bright amps and EL-84's makes sense.

Yeah, that's true about the bright amps thing. My current amp is dark as.

Re: Hot Cake vs SS/BS Mini
I own both.
Hotcake is great for warm low gain OD. Sounds muddy with gain past 12 o'clock.
Fuck sounds good low OD through to hi gain distortion. Not as warm (middy) though
Fuck is more versatile.

*EDIT* Derp, mini, gotcha. I obviously have the regalar fuck.

This. I LOVE the Double Hotcake - both low and high gain sounds are awesome to my ears, though I can totally understand the high gain stuff that comes out of a Hotcake being an acquired taste.
Have yet to try a Fuck.

Re: Hot Cake vs SS/BS Mini
Wow, this thread actually adds even more confusion, obviously some rig-dependent factors plating a large role in that.
I can't clear it up much as I've never tried a Hot Cake but the Fuck absolutely owns at any gain settings on all my amps with all my guitars and my bass. Low gain, high gain, blown out/biased crackle, all good. Amps (and speakers) are widely varied, 6V6, EL84, KT88, and solid state bass amp but it loves 'em all. Also stacks well with everything. I don't think you can go wrong with a standard Fuck or Mini honestly, no acquired taste involved, just good right outta the gates.

Re: Hot Cake vs SS/BS Mini
Pretty sure the highcut on the Fuck is doing some wonderful things. It's probably my favorite part, at least. I use the crackle purely as a momentary end-of-the-song-means-end-of-the-world trick. And I use it to push my amp (Ampeg GVT15H) harder and make sure my signal into it is nice and loud, rather than being anemic and trying to get the preamp to compensate by raising the gain there.
I've heard the Hotcake + AC30 adds nice harmonics, but I've never had that setup
