NPD - and it's not working. So sad, oh so sad

Post by Agileguy_101 »

So I got an Infanem Faye Sing in the mail today. I put it on my board, initially powering it via a Strymon PSU, as I heard someone had used one and it worked fine. The LED comes on, but no phasing. I don't fret, as I heard it sometimes works only on 12V. So I switch some cables around and power it from power outlet 4 on my PPII+, with the switch set away from normal (should be 12V, right?) Well, that doesn't work either. So, I try hooking it up to the high current outlet of my PPII+... still no dice. Tried messing with the internal gain trimmer and again, nothing. What's going on here?

Side note - I noticed that in my pedal, on the left side of the heat shrink in this picture, there's nothing attached, but there are two wires on the right side. Is that right?

Not sure about the power issue but that looks like a resistor with heatshrink around it and should be normal...

Anyone???

I had issues with mine as well. A Boss style adapter 9V 200mA powered it fine but you had to cycle it on and off a couple times to get it phasing. My PP2+ would work at 9V 250mA too but it could be inconsistent. Ken mentioned running it at 12V however you can't do that with a PP2+ cuz it drops down to around 60mA in 12V settings, far short of the Faye Sing's required 150mA.

In the end, I used a CIOKS DC10 at 12V 200mA and it was flawless.

One note, I used my Strymon Timeline PSU (9V 660mA) with my Faye's Her initially and that shit DID NOT WORK! The LED was just flashing on/off on both the pedal AND the PSU. Never tried it with the Faye Sing. Run the FH off the CIOKS now too, bridging current on two 9V outs to give it 800mA. Only requires 500mA but oh well, works wonderfully.

Was working fine with my Carl Martin PowerJack.
I would suggest you to try one of those.
It's not that expensive.

Well, it magically decided to start working... I think. For starters, is the sweep supposed to be this slow in the fast mode? With max rate i'm getting maybe three to four cycles a second - far slower than 1:46 of this video.

Also, it seems rather difficult to get an audible phase sweep on a clean tone unless the resonance and range are both past noon, and the balance is dimed. Is this normal? I really hope I didn't get a bum unit. Should have got a new one :picard:

Well, it's working fully now. Maybe it needed to acclimate a bit longer to California, or maybe I was just too high to realize that testing a phaser with an acoustic-electric is not the best idea :picard: :picard: :picard:

Initial impressions are I AM IN LURRRRRVE Holy shit where has this thing been all of my life. One more pedal and my main board is complete. Infanem I <3 you so much

If you need to, this is a good option. Ken helped me out when my 2nd voice wasn't working. :thumb:

Arggggh. I really want to buy one of these and then keep finding threads about bros having issues powering them.

I went and used it at band practice yesterday and it was perfect. Someone said that it is like older phasers in that it needs a few minutes to warm up, so I don't think it's too far fetched to imagine it may have needed to acclimate to a new environment like a guitar.

However, I really don't like that on the fast speed range of my device, once the speed knob gets to noon it doesn't get any faster. I'll have a chat with Ken about that.

Keep us posted...like I said it's just too many with the same story. Not a cheap phaser, shit should pretty much make you all warm and wooshy and then cook you breakfast after...
