First Fuzz - Help me decide?

Post by d3thron3d »

Hey guys... I had another post in the general, this being my second one on your forum, now that I've been getting more and more fuzz hunted down... and these are the few pedals I'm choosing between...

Guitars: Mexican Stratocaster, Jackson DK2 Eerie w/ Floyd Rose
Tuning: Mostly standard
Amp: Line 6 Spider Valve 212 (first line - not MKII)

Currently disappointed with: Hardwire TL-2
This amp is really something. I prefer it's distortion over everything else so far. It's that jack of all trades that doesn't excel at any ONE thing. Just found it really difficult to throw a pedal in front of it. Hoping it'll all turn out alright.

We got the:

Blackout Effectors - Seriously Special Twosome

Warlus - Janus

Electro-Harmonix - Germanium 4 Big Muff

Love you all for loving the fuzz... It's about bein' in love and lovin' the love that's hatin' the love
the love and the love and the hate that's lovin with all that's around the love that's hate that's the hate that's the love
And the love is the love that is the hate that's hatin' the love.... ;)

Thanks you for your guidance and wisdom new community! :)

Is there a drawback or shortcoming of the Germanium 4 out of curiosity?

I'm not familiar enough to say, but I think you'll probably get more versatility out of the Twosome.

A friend of mine has it and it just doesn't sound that good,

it's a nice concept but honestly I would prefer a regular NYC muff

Kinda sad they call it a big muff at all because it's not so much a fuzz.

if you want legit fuzz tones the twosome is the way to go,
looks like you are looking at a ton of dual pedals, any particular reason for that?

The germanium muff was pretty lo-fi sounding to my ears. My band mate had one and it is versatile and fun to use but he couldn't get that "big" sound he wanted. I'd recommend the twosome.

SST has changed my opinion about so many other dirtboxes.

There are many times now I think I could get by with it and only it for my dirty tones.

It's not cheap compared to the ehx stuff, but it's two pedals in one and it's fucking awesome.
