Ooooo. Tecamp. I've always kinda wondered about the Puma. I LOOOOOOOVE my Glock. It's good only a level the serfs of this board will never even be able to afford an MP3 recording of. But people say the Tecamp Puma is close....and I could buy two or three more pedals with the money I would get from switching......
But yeah. Do the backline douchecanoe clubs DI or do they just mic their provided gear?
DI is the benchmark of venues too lazy to accommodate bands changing gear so that's what I normally get.
Anyhoo - I just ordered a Rusty Box. It's a great pedal and I should never have flipped my first one. I'll try encouraging the hipster soundies to use the balanced output on it for a while. If not, I'll slap a DI on my board and just enjoy using the Rusty tone again.

By the way -Tecamp is seriously good stuff man. Loud and clear and awesome with effects. Glock is just Rolls Royce quality but Tec is up there with it for amps. The cabs don't compare though.

Thanks Ben. I'll definitely pack one. The easier I make it, the better things will go.

Well....a mic won't help him if they're forcing him to go with a set backline. Then he'd be adding a different end to the sound chain at every show and mic'n it. The pedal DI route is the way to go. Something that can power a power amp......then he can totally skip the backline in the sound chain.....maybe use it as a monitor or not at all. And his sound chain is consistent from show to show.

Re: Dropping dat bass and your mom's pants! (TB Mega Thread
As a person who worked for 4 years doing live sound work, I have to agree that it is largely a lazy soundman that uses DIs. The guy I worked for just didn't feel like buying a mic for bass and complained that it sounded like shit when someone brought one in. Honestly he was the one making it sound that way and just didn't want to give the musician the victory.
DIs are great with young musicians who don't know how to eq their amp on stage yet or when you're on a tight/overfilled stage with no space for mic or it causes unnecessary stage noise. But that's the only time I think it's a good choice. A soundguy doesn't know what type of sound you are going for. A lot of them never played bass in their life, so they take out all of the highs and mids. Totally lifeless tone with no articulation.
Unfortunately soundmen are usually cheap and lazy, especially at small to moderate sized venues.
I would always try to bring my own mic or have a preamp at least. That's mostly a result of seeing how awful bass ends up when you don't take it in your own hands.
Basically I want a band of my clones with myself at FOH and running everything...

Donny got himself an aluminium EGC bass git-box!

That's... very tempting...
I miss doing live sound. It was some of the most fun I ever had with music. And some of the worst days of work I'll ever experience.
Dammit behnds, you make a compelling offer.
