yeah. just a brief second delay idea: would i get either the RE-20, the Nova Delay or a second Hazarai? but i wasn't thinking used though. if i found a used RE-20 at $200 i'd probably buy that & a Devi Ever Dark Boost.

Those Space Echos seem to be getting a lot of love. Are they really that great? Do they even compare to the originals in any way? Or are they just awesome as their own machine?

hmmm. i see it as being quite the opposite. when they first came out everyone was talking about them but now i don't hear or see much of them anymore. i really couldn't say how good they are either. i am assuming they mirror or are a faithful reproduction of the original. :)

I've had one...sold it to a friend who plays bass.I've only heard a few original re's,but I can tell you...it doesn't really have the same artifacts and sound as the original,tape-driven ones...don't get me wrong,it's a good pedal on it's own.It tries hard to mimic the old ones, but you can definitely hear the digital thing when it's oscillating...not a smooth sound. It also takes a bit of treble out of the fuzz boxes, but I can't remember how it compares with the originals on that one. It's normal for the repeats to shave some of the high end,but that's not what I'm talking about here.Overall,I'd say it's a good pedal, but nothing too impressive,as promised by boss. The good thing about the pedal is that it has some of that old flavor, and tons of controls, also the tap tempo is always a good thing.

The twist option sounds gimmicky,as expected, but you can hold it down just before it starts to go into 'oscillation',and you can get some cool detuning effects that way.

that's kind of like the ironic thing. esp. w/ delays. there's alwayz this talk & hype & then people buy them & play w/their new toy for awhile, get bored w/ them & like flip them or whatever. that's kind of why i try to ignore the irrational exuberance & wait for the "market" to settle.

i remember. like two years ago. people raving about the RE-20 & seeing it in peoples set-ups and what have you. i just don't hear much about them now. & the vintage Space Echo are like crazy expensive. you'd be lucky to find one for like $400 at the least. right?

I too, would go with something more middle ground in terms of drive - as was mentioned previously.

There are some of these big $$$ boutique builders getting undercut and in some cases ripped off on their designs. I feel a little bad for the boutiquers but on the other hand the prices are often pretty uncompetitive. With that said, I didn't save any money in my pedal budget... I just bough more shit!

Shamelessly.... Examples???

Danelectro Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive copied the Timmy (I feel bad on this one because the Timmy is a great pedal/original design and Paul's prices aren't rediculous at all). Nonetheless I pushed morals aside in favor of more gear for the $ and bought one. It's the best light overdrive I've played in my 16 years of playing guitar.

Danelectro Cool Cat Drive - Fulltone OCD - I think its got a slight tweak or something but the guys at freestompboxes.com were the ones who stumbled onto what Danelectro did with all these but I have this one too and its really good for heavier overdrive.

Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz - Its a Frantone Peach Fuzz at a tiny fraction of the price. I don't have this one but you can see the comparison on youtube.

I do have a couple other of this Cool Cat series and they are very good too (don't know if they are rip offs too or not). They are all metal enclosures and true bypass. Bad part is the controls are all on the back. Prices are all below $50 ea (I think). These have to be the most bang for the buck pedals out there.

Also check out Lovekraft Mojo Drive (TS based) and Chupacabra (rat based) at less than half of the Landgraff LDO and MoD prices. Pretty swirly paint jobs included. There a lots of tone snobs (if I could afford to be.. I'd probably be one too) who say these are the best at what they do, and many agree the Lovekraft versions are even a hair better. Never played the Landgraff stuff but my Chupa is a kick ass rat pedal. Someday I might get the Mojo Drive.

BUY more of DEVI's stuff. I think Devi is doing great by constantly pushing deeper into more designs for the customers and the prices are extremely reasonable. I know I'm going two directions here on music styles, but Devi is very much like Sean at Lovepedal (not to be confused with Lovekraft above). Constantly redesigning, tweaking and morping what their customers loves to give them different shades to play with. Keep it up Devi!
