Sibling vs. Faye Sing HELP ME CHOOSE!

Post by benjuro »

Looking for another phase, and can't decide between these two...I have a Grand Orbiter, and sold my Whetstone--while I LOVE the smallstone sound there were just too many options and not enough real-estate on my board. Faye Sing seems like it's way versatile, and I already have an expression pedal...it's a bit more expensive but not a big deal. I also love Blackout and the simplicity of the Sib, and I know it hasn't been out so long to get around yet.
It'll mostly get used for slow and dirty heaviness/mind melting. I hate to abuse return policies...maybe I just need to buy both and return one but OMG SELF-CONTROL

as a guy who went from Whetstone to a Faye Sing:

it's absolutely different  but for your needs, i'd say the Faye Sing will be awesome

the thing is it's very VOCAL - deep and grainy and just gooey as fuck. Whetstone is much smoother - Sibling will be as well. When i had Whetstone, i couldn't get those kinds of phasing right, so for deep and slow heavy psychedelia and mind melting, the Faye Sing should be perfect! :)

And although i'm not really sure it's what i'm looking for, it kinda grew on me  it's very unique i'd say :) and with the expression pedal, it should be even more awesome
I make pedal demos as East Stomp Boutique - http://www.youtube.com/c/eaststompboutique

Oh hey, if you read what I just deleted I was totally wrong.

I would say Faye Sing because it's got much more control for, what like $60 more? I would say it's worth it. Also, the Subdecay Baby Quasar has a similar sound but it it smaller and not too many controls. It's a smaller version of the Quasar DLX. They are discontinued but I've seen them go for $125 before. Maybe a little less vocal than the Faye but more control/similar tone/cheaper price than the sibling

Faye Sing was cool, but it was very dark and VERY vocal/metalic sounding. But I kind of miss it. I also had the Whetstone, which I loved. I REALLY loved the Whetstone, I hope the Sibling can get nearly as slow as the Whetstone did

Not to bust yo' bubble, but I think Kyle said it couldn't. Maybe nearly, but not quite.

It's a tough choice buddy
Personally I'm only selling my whetstone to get a sibling so I can fit a rainbow machine on my board as well :snax:

Yeah, I kind of figured that the Sibling wouldn't get quite quite as slow. No biggie. I seem to only use phaser on bass... that being said, the Malekko Phaser ruled on bass

That's it. There's the answer right there.

Funny, I spent about an hour with the Malekko before boxing it up and sending it back...

I also enjoyed the Ibanez Phase Tone II. That shit was lush as hell, but totally off topic.
I'd say if you want a more traditionally voiced phase, Sibling. If you want something a little different sounding, go Faye Sing!

I had a Faye Sing, only got rid of it to get a Faye's Her. They both rule but def a different sound when compared to a Whetstone or Small Stone, not as thick/lush/smooth. The expression and blend control are both excellent features on the Infanem stuff.

The Subsecay Quasar DLX looks great too, insane flexibilty in a small footprint, same size as a Faye Sing I think but a bit more coin...

i havent tried the grand orbiter, but from demos it sounds similar to the whetstone/sibling in that its got that 4-stage OTA sound.
i havent heard the sibling properly yet, although i have the whetstone and i love the option of the async sweep, it gives that 'chasing' small stone swirl where it does like a double climb - very wooshy on slower speeds

the faye sing is switchable 6/8 stages ldr(?) and will give you a very different sound and option to the orbiter, so i would get that one

This is what worries me about the really vocal phasers, that over-pronounced gurgle that makes you fade in TOO MUCH and then disappear out of a mix. If the resonance is way off on a Grand Orbiter, some frequencies just jump way out front while others die.

SOME AWESOME INPUT SO FAR, THANKS SO MUCH
