Just dont get Skull Candy garbage I went through three pairs where the left speaker just died on them after like three months. And I wasnt listening to them crazy loud since they canceled out most outside noise. My buddy has a pair of Senhizers (sp) that are pretty damn good he said were pretty cheap Ill ask him which ones he has.

i have some Sennheisers, i regret buying em
they're pretty nice for casual music listening but really leave a lot to be desired for recording

the folks over HCFX convinced me to get a pair of Audio-Technica ATHM50

Pretty much every studio I go into uses the Sony MDR-7506 or MDR V-6 for monitoring. Totally standard.
Amazon usually has decent prices on them.
Don't use active noise cancelling headphones for recording.....the accuracy will be tainted.

My headphones (200 bucks worth of Sony genius) are gorgeous and I typically use them to record, and then when I put the recorded cd in my car it sounds so much worse.

Normally my demo cd comes with a disclaimer much similar to Cornelius's stereo-headphones album.
Listen to through headphones, cuz you'll probably like it.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

Best under $50 earphones are the Koss Porta Pros, hands down.
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

Agreed 100%. not sure abt the v6 but i use the 7506 myself at work and in class. when recording on cans, what we really want is for the representation of the music to be as untainted as possible hence we need pretty flat frequency response playback. For their price, the 7506's can't be beat. the only grouch i have is their discomfort but that's only if you're out in the sun for 8 hrs on end like I was.

So for what it's worth, u should look for headphones that are pretty flat frequency responding instead of noise-cancelling. hope that helps.

I have a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs that I've been pretty happy with. $49.50 at amazon.
