A question to Cleanness owners
It's actually a very simple question:
Where do you place yours in your chain?
I use mine as an always on pedal, to built my base tone w/ vol at noon & gain at 9.
I know it's a boost, but I find it very usefull as a toneshaper, and very beautiful.
In my case, I only have a Fuzzy Lady and a Mini Fuck.
I'm still experimenting but I can't be entirely satisfyed.
Now I'm running FL>Cleanness>Mini.
But Mini>Cleanness, I don't know how to say, made my sound sounds muddy and weaker.
And Cleanness>FL made my fuzz sound like heavy and loose all the germs specs; instead of FL>Cleanness which is so awesome, so gritty, so organic and wild!!!
So where do I put my Cleanness?
Maybe I'm wrong, I'd rather use it as a regular boost and the Mini as my always on toneshaper...
The Cleanness is my favorite pedal, that's why I'm asking you some advices and where do you put yours on your board...
Thank you ILFers!!!

Re: A question to Cleanness owners
Hey Raphael!
This is one of those questions where the answer is... it depends. It depends on the pedals involved and it depends on what you're hoping to accomplish with them.
Stacking is tough because pedals don't always interact predictably or in a nice way but you're doing it right, experiment with all the positions available and see what sounds best. I'd start with the gain on the Cleanness set very low, master up, and eq flat.. and then start tweaking from there.
Some frequencies sound better boosted before or after gain, that's a matter of experimentation and personal preference though. Also some gain circuits sound better with gain after them rather than before them, so that's another experiment, depending on whether or not you want to goose the pedal with gain or eq.
The thing is, it won't work for all situations.. it'll be pedal and signal chain dependent.
I don't really have any other advice than that... experiment away!

Re: A question to Cleanness owners
If someone would give me a free Cleanness, I'd be more than happy to conduct tonal experiments with it.

Haha, the Master Himself!!!!
Hey Ryan, good to read you
I'm still experimenting but you're right, no gain at all made the Mini sounds right to my ears. But I like the Cleanness with gain between 9 and 12, so I have to make choices.
Then so be it!! no gain at all!!!!
But be reassured, your stuffs are masterpieces!!!!
See, I'm building a board around the Cleanness
Stacking pedals is tough, super hard, it's Art!!!!!
I'm so enjoying it...
Chankgeez, you definitly have to find one, it's an amazing pedal full of simple and usefull awesomness. I've been lurking on the Bay and everywhere to have one...I even had contacts with stores in Hong-Kong and Melbourne!!!!! (I'm french, so it was really exotic and unreal)
I finally found mine on Amazon.

See, Ryan, people are trekking deep into the jungle to find these pedals. I think you need to build some more.

Re: A question to Cleanness owners
I use my Cleanness as an always on tone shaper, master for the front of the amp.
All my dirt goes through the loop of a Decimator GString and the Cleanness is out of the loop and just before the amp.
You guys are certainly right though, it's subjective and dependant on what you have and what you want.
It is a very powerful EQ though, dial in exactly what you want, love mine.

Re: A question to Cleanness owners
I generally kept my Cleanness near the middle sandwiched between two large dirt/fuzz sections after my POG and Second Voice/Octasynth and before all my mod and time-based stuff. Also liked it at the end to fine tune EQ or boost volume. Extremly versatile pedal I miss very dearly.
The only pedal it didn't jive with on my board, ever, was a LoFi Loop Junky which sounded insane if the Cleanness was on before it. Kinda cool at times but a very unpredictable brand of insanity haha!

"Problem" solved!!!
I'm now running FL > Mini > Cleanness, and it sounds divine
I did this before but I don't know, maybe it was my mood, or the weather (it was a rainy day...humidity...) that made it wrong to my ears.

Re: A question to Cleanness owners
Right on!
A little change of gain and/or bass will make a big difference with other dirt pedals, those are the most dramatic and noticeable things to alter, in my opinion.
Ok, I'm going to make a new thread about the new Cleanness now...
