Yep
I tried some 50 and 100 watt... it's hard to get that sound... you know...
even 30 is too much.

I have the combo version. I should have got the head as I prefer the sound of a 2 X 12 cab.

yah. at home i use a 400 watt power amp.... and turn it up maybe to 1.5. thought the 15w head was for gigging.

15w tube amp mic'd up is great for gigs... get to that crunchy sweet spot without destroying yourself and the front 3 rows with stage volume.

bass amps are a whole 'nother animal, though... you needs da watts to push da bottoms...

ps: skully, i got a little sumthin sumthin for you next time i see ya :hello:

I have a Duende... Bogner are great amp.

Yeah I am eyeballing the 12-15 watt heads mostly. But a local dealer has slashed his prices on all his Bogner stuff, including the Shiva, Duende and others, hence the GAS.

sooooooo.... this is probably me just being a retarded bass player that's always needed 400-500 watts per channel..... but what does one DO with a 12-15 watt head?

murrrrrrr?

If you look at the numbers, the actual decibel level increases VERY slowly as wattage is increased. The difference between a 50 watt head and 100 watt head is not twice the volume at all.

And solid state amps of equal wattage to tube amps just aren't as loud for whatever reason. You should get a tube amp :)

Even 12 watts is way too loud for my own home use. I am in a one-bedroom now with thin walls and hardwood floors, so everything is magnified throughout the building. My girlfriend and I are moving into the first floor of a house in a couple weeks, and I am going to build an isolation booth in one of the closets so it's not as much of a concern, but one of the reasons I got that 12-watt Aiken head was because it has a built-in attenuator and a second attenuation feature where I can play down really quiet, or not, but at least I have some tonal options, whereas before I was playing 12-18 watt amps, or even 60 watt amps at home on like, 1, or .5 on the volume knob. As others pointed out, I could gig with these amps mic'ed as well. Most places I play are unmic'ed so I go with the bigger guns then, not to mention the less opportunities I have to deafen myself the better. So quieter playing at home is sort of a necessity for me.

Also, what Officer Bukowski said! I've kept up with low wattage combos against half stacks. The relationship between watts, number of speakers and speaker efficiency plays a larger role in loudness than sheer number of watts.

I haven't even listened to Mogwai in a while, so I'm not sure what this GAS is about, but I think it could at least be fun to let my keyboard player mangle drum machines and keys with it.

So yeah, if anyone has a metal Fab Tone they want to sell me (for pretty cheap of course) hit me up.

Is there a schematic to build one?

I thought I replied to this but I guess not.

I found a schematic but the circuit is complicated enough that it's not really worth the time and money for me to build it vs picking up the original on the cheap.

FancyMike is hookin me up with one!

Yeah... with the head I got (a Kustom Defender 15) the combo version would've had a single 12" speaker... same as my lame old combo... so I got the head and a 4x12 instead :animal:
besides... It just looks moar mighty.
