Re: Albums of the year (2012 Edition)
This year was a little dry.... Gotta agree with those who said Japandroids, Neurosis and Chelsea Wolfe. I also liked that Pelican Ep... anyone mention Marriages? Oh...wait...Joint Chiefs of Math (I think it was 2012)
But what I am really waiting for is that highly anticipated ILF compilation. C' mon AndTheLiquidmen giterdun.... no pressure....honest enthusiams is all.

oh, and i'm probably disqualified from saying so, because i'm now in the band, but i think Yowie's 'Damning with Faint Praise' is pretty amazing. i don't play on it, though, so i don't feel too bad adding it to my list.

Almost forgot Dirty Projectors - Swing Low Magellan.
That was the thing that amazed me the most this year, sparse and interesting arrangements. Really well put together.

YES again.
Speaking of Zs, did you listen to Diamond Terrifier's Kill the Self That Wants to Kill Yourself? I really need to sit down and listen to it properly. Does seem to be quite a good album, though, at least based on my slightly-distracted listen from a few days ago.

Re: Albums of the year (2012 Edition)
My responses are trite and boring compared to you guyses:
Slash - Apocalyptic Love (not my favorite of his but got alot of car play)
Deftones - Koi No Yokan (haven't given it a real good listen, just got it yesterday, but I love all their other stuff)
Soundgarden - King Animal (only listened to it once so far but like a couple things going on there)
I blew out my home stereo speakers so I can only listen in my car. Plus I gave up smoking dope so there's not the inspiration to just chillax and breathe in some music.
I like best hard rock like the above - I absolutely hate shit with screaming grunting singers. I love melody but well - hard rock. Can I say HARD ROCK again? Fuuck I hate that shit where the band sounds great but the singer sounds like he's gargling with puke. Did I say I hate that? If anyone remembers what hard rock sounds like - like say Aerosmith 'Rocks,' Van Halen 'II' Led Zep, and Incubis, deftones, STP please give me some help heah.

i have listened to it. i like it, but don't love it. as with the more recent Zs stuff, i prefer it when those guys do rigidly composed material...because they are so awesome at that kind of thing. the more sprawling semi-improvised stuff is decent, but it doesn't really hit me like the other stuff does.

I get what you mean. I'm a huge fan of improvised stuff though, so yeah...
I also can't believe I forgot to name Extra Life's Dream Seeds as one of my albums of the year. Probably my favourite out of everything I've heard this year. But then I am a total fanboy, so.

I am REALLY bad at these lists and usually most of the stuff I end up wanting to put on is from last year, but I'll give you these:
Goat - World Music
Why - Mumps etc
Die Antwoord - Ten$ion
Gog - In our Architecture this resounds
S ND Y P RL RS - Rex
Whores. - Ruiner
Moon - Guilt EP
Some stuff I want to check out before I finalize this list:
new Cleared
that Metz everyone is raving about.

My albums of the year are almost always from the wrong year.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.
