Speaker Break In Tips?
Anyone have any tried and true methods of breaking in new speakers beyond simply playing thru those mofos for a whole buncha hours? I've got a few cabs with new or new-ish speakers and I've read a little about running Signal Generators and/or loops set to a specific frequency to aid in a speedy break in....
I've never attempted to accelerate this process before but I've had some speakers in the past that took a long ass time for proper break in and that was when I had actual time to play 'em at high volume most every day, minimal responsibilities back then. Things are different now so looking to fast forward the break in maybe if it's a simple task? Did a google search and found varied opinions, trying to cut thru the bullshit to the heart of the matter here.

For my new Verellen speaker I looped a drone on my bass, then sent it through a parametric EQ for about an hour set to about 65hz. It REALLLLLLY improved the sound 10 fold, took all the stiffness out without a hitch!

That sounds ideal. Just figure out the frequency to run based on speaker specs or what?

Re: Speaker Break In Tips?
I just went as low as my EQ could hahaha. So long as the frequency you run into it isn't lower than what the speaker can handle you shouldn't have a problem. I think the lowest my new speaker can go is in the 50ish hz range, so 65hz wasn't pushing it. And I must note that I wasn't even doing it insanely loud, I was just running my little 5w head with a Super Duper clean boost at the end of everything

Seems like you could also generate a low frequency jank in Audacity or another DAW, connect your USB interface/mixer/whatever to yr amp and let it sit like that for a while.

Thanks for the input dudes, all great ideas! That stereo deal might be even easier since I don't actually own a parametric EQ. I can borrow one tho, eventually...hmmmmmm

Plug them into your stereo and play music at elevator levels for around 8 hrs.
Works like a charm and much better than fucking tones or drones

just make a loop in reason or something like a freq sweep and drone and play it back off an mp3 player or something all week long

Beside the audio break in (i play a bass loop in the rc-2 and let it run about a Day in my basement) you could carefully whip with Aceton around the speaker fixsation. That removes additional glue which stiffens The speaker.
