...... i just don't know how much i want to do straight up looping though. i love the idea of what i hope the Clean/Effected 2 output from the *shudder* S.Ego does... but i dunno. playing over loops skeers me.

Loops can't adjust their own tempo. That's not so much an issue for me (as long as I can hear them properly), but some people have enough issues matching other live musicians, much less a static click track.

And sometimes they just kinda sound stale.

yah. it's the timing issue. last band i was in (same drummer guy pimp Paul), we used backing tracks and a bunch of looped shit i hated. turned into shitty live bass, minimal drums and meh karaoke singing. NO THANKS.

don't want to do that severe a Pre Production thing ever again, but with loops it's so much pressure to get it right on time the first playthrough, you kinda need to go in ear for the drummer, it would get rid of a lot of what i've dug about being just 2 guys making noise.... the openess and spontaneity.

i fucked UP on a riff and got like half a measure off tonight. Paul caught it and covered for me by following as i turned it into a messy chord buildup thing to drop back in on time. was.... almost.... transcendent feeling?

That's just a worst case scenario. If my band's main songwriter wasn't constantly coming up with the most absurd, disparate song structures I'd love to do some synth loops so I could have that and play guitar simultaneously (or vise versa) instead of swapping between guitar and synth/vox/aux percussion/whatever else I discover I can do all at the same time.

Being in a three piece is weird. That said, I'm also incredibly uncomfortable working with most other guitarists and have had nothing but trouble with keyboard players (have yet to find a legit synth player). That said, the other guitarist in my cover band posted a video of the Subdecay Octasynth on my FB wall. Dude's got good taste, not something I usually feel about other guitarists I meet in person.

I think I ended up here after internet stalking Behndy. I understand about 7% of all the posts in this thread - it moves so fast and so apparently randomly (although I suspect the thread could be modelled with some sort of advanced chaos algorithm). But the entertainment factor is extremely high. bass duders.

Oh yeah, sorry for being a total dick about paternity leave - it was meant light-hearted but probably came across pretty much 100% douchey. Honestly, props to everyone who does the best they can given leave situations that aren't as good as I've been lucky enough to have.
Also, good work on helping your wife regardless of the work situation Jwar - I was at home together with my wife for the first four weeks and it was ridiculously tough - dunno how we'd have done it with only one pair of hands at home.
