They'd probably have crucified me when my daughter was born if I worked w/jwar...I left work on a Wednesday and didn't get back for nine days, due to my (now ex-) wife being almost two weeks late and never really going into actual labor.

And I agree w/Haki (from what I've learned about it up there)...a good manager deals with it; a poor manger bitches about it.

Shit, I took 2 weeks off when my son was born, and seriously considering taking off more, my work didn't give a crap. My wife took 13 weeks off, all paid (she had saved up her vacation and sick time for two solid years, fucking state jobs)

You get 12 months + 2 for the other parent over here. Employers MUST let you go and give you the job back afterwards, the state pays sth like 70% of your salary for that time.

Yeah...this country has some weirdo ideas on the whole new-parent-vs-employer thing sometimes. In my case, I got lucky in that my supervisor was also part of the store's overall mgmt team...she told me to check in w/her when I could, but put the wife & pending kid first and she'd back me up if high-lvl mgmt got cranky about it all. Which they did. She apparently asked them who had kids, did they remember what it was like for them during that time, and basically to shut up about it all. They did. I miss working for her.

As for the manager, sometimes they feel like it's their job to bitch. I dunno. They're so weird. But yeah. FMLA. Do that shit up.

So the babies look like they'll have been in the hospital for about 2 1/2 to 3 months by the time they all get out. I've had enough VacA and sick leave saved up to take every Fri out of those months off (sometimes a different day but usually just one a week) and I'll have enough to take a full week off when they all get out and get home. Yeah, I could have done FMLA to get more. And everyone where I work wants me to because they want donate leave time to me. But I don't want to do that. I'm not cool taking someone else's time. Just like I wouldn't be cool living in another country and taking two months off on other people's tax money. Nah. I'm cool living in this country as long as we keep it free. I had the babies. I'll take care of them. If other people want to help, awesome, but I'm cool having living in a place that doesn't force others to.....so far......

But I'm about to drop down to part time at that place, anyways. My private practice is starting to build up enough clients to where I can start weening that place out.

just played this tiny spot that's a cafe, live music corner at night, and LAUNDROMAT. so much pure awesome. i love SF. silllly shits out here. like 30 people, but ALL up in our yarea. they seemed to like it ok. i'm not that good, i'm super self-conscious about being the center of attention, so it's super weird doing just a duo thing. but it's been a blast so far.

my main concern that i was chabbling with Hakilicious about is righting the same shit. i only think i do 3 or 4 things decently, and without another melodic instrument to bounce off of i'm a bit timid about getting all repeticious and boring. wooooo.
