Anyone order one yet? Looks like the dealers have them. I've got one coming from JRRShop.

Dennis has a new video up (for some reason I can't seem to make the embedding function work):
http://youtu.be/ZHomHVTTsPk
Is it me or does this pedal have absolutely no unique character to it at all? Maybe we're just so spoilt for high quality distortion pedals as of late that nothing is standing out any more. But The Elements is very unique, so it's not impossible to be separate from the crowd. This is not a criticism. And for all I know, it was its intention. But it doesn't sound like the pedal has any defining attributes. It's just a pedal with distortion.
I mean, The Elements can do that really heavy sludge tone as well as the normal high gain sounds; the Wampler TripleWreck can do the Boogie scooped sound; the Openhaus can do the really aggressive hard-edge sound; the OKKO Dominator can do the modded Marshall midrange-empasised thing, but the Talons just sounds like a pedal that has nothing to say for itself. That could be fantastic, but it doesn't seem like EQD made it. Usually their pedals are very obtuse and definitive, like the Rainbow Machine and the Dirt Transmitter. I guess I'll just have to try it one day and see for myself what the story is with this jackanory.

In a way, this was designed to not be abnormal. It's high gain in a very 70's Marshall style with a fuzzy grity edge and highly tweakable eq section. Not meant to be a gross modern metal sextuple rectifier emulator. More judas priest than future metal. It fills a void in our line of dirt pedals. The Internet isn't the best way to demo dirt pedals so I fully understand (to some extent anyhow) being underwhelmed. Its fun to play, has a wide range and i like it a lot, therefore i think it rips. Everyone keeps mentioning the elements but I'm pretty unfamiliar with it. I know the dr. makes cool stuff so its probably pretty rad but I bet very different than the Talons. I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, I dig my Elements but I don't think this is (nor is it intended to be) in the same neighborhood. Psyched to see the Talons added to the line

Special low-frequency version.

Re: NEW EQD: Talons Overdrive - Now with demo!!!
I've tried it out twice and I'm pretty sure I'll be picking one up when I finish up some other projects. Demos are great, but for this kind of pedal, i think it's better to find a dealer near you and sit down with it and twiddle some knobs for awhile. Personally i love a lot of the mid-heavy and bass-heavy medium-ish drive settings, and I prefer the white light OD for lower gain stuff. Ideally I'd probably stack the White Light before it and have the Hoof Reaper after it. Also it does 18 volts, which makes me want a new power supply to try it out at a higher voltage
As far as comparisons with the Elements goes, yeah, it's an overdrive/distortion with an EQ section, just like a million other pedals. The Talons has a very gritty almost fuzzy thing going on with the drive and it has a presence knob for further tone-tailoring. It's awesome and I want it in front of my Hoof Reaper right now.
Great job EQD!
edit: also found low gain settings i like a lot on the bridge pickup. buh!

I wouldn't say I was underwhelmed. It's just not what I expected. I hope what I said didn't come across as a criticism. It was more of a meandering string of thoughts.

The Elements could well compare to the Talons because it also has a very versatile EQ section. The design philosophy seems somewhat familiar, but the end product is ultimately different.
I really like that it's more of a vintage Marshall sound. I much prefer that myself. The description of "fuzzy" always makes me smile.

I really like Dennis' demo, as usual. But I hate watching dist/OD demos on YT. The compression ruins most of it, and it's difficult to pick up any nuances in how it responds to touch etc.
- That said, I still watch heaps of dirt demos on YT
I wish I needed a mid gain OD, the Talons looks/sounds super nice.

Re: NEW EQD: Talons Overdrive - Now with demo!!!
I currently run an Elements as my main source of dirt. Gain wise, we're talkin NOFX type levels. Gainer and tighter than ACDC but nowhere near metal. I also use an NOC3 Pure Drive for that middle pickup position surfy type overdrive.
I ordered a Talons today. I love both my dirt pedals but had to give it a shot and hear EQD's take on more standard dirt because frankly, I'm not really a fuzz guy. Doesn't work with the music I generally play. Palm mutes, anybody?
As far as the demos go, yeah, not as gainy as I thought it would be, but regardless, I'm still really excited to hear it. Maybe it'll do my main sound better than The Elements. Maybe it'll do my low gain tone better than my Pure Drive. Maybe it won't and I'll sell it, but damn, I just had to hear it.
I also run a Grand Orbiter and Tone Job as a solo booster. Had an Organizer for a spell. Love EQD pedals.

Overdrive is meant to be a boost or an avenue of added grit. Not a gain monster.

If we ask nicely.... can we GET a gross modern metal-face-melting-fuck-shit-up Earthquaker pedal?

That would fill a void too, and I'd be the first to buy it.
