i have one. it's really dirty and noisy...

and kind of hard to get "neat" sounds out of it. and by neat i mean robot-like blips and 8-bitishness, which is kind of what I expected.

but to be fair, I haven't messed around with it too much, and only tried it out with one guitar so far (a fender baritone special), so i'm sure there's much more to be found. and i've got a three-day weekend, so maybe i'll do a little more research and get back to you...

i still kind of want the Octave Drone more & i really couldn't see myself using the Digital Pitch Modulator w/ guitar much unless it really interfaced well guitar & some other pedals.

so here's a little more information.

the DPM is like two pedals in one, with a knob to blend between one (the analogue) and the other (the digital).

the all-analogue side (blend knob to the far right) is kind of a like a strong yet simple distortiony effect (think DS-1) but has no control aside from the master volume of the pedal. it's not terrible, but the lack of control makes it alone seem kind of bland.

the digital side is kind of ring-moddy. you select an oscillator frequency that then jives with the input frequency. sometimes they work together, but usually they don't, and that's when things get noisy. it doesn't really handle chords but the individual notes can sound really cool. chimey, ringy-like. the three switches each adjust the frequncy of the oscillator a set interval (or maybe add another frequency on top?). the sound then jumps back and forth between the two freqs. each combination switches results in different types of interval jumps. when all three are up it sounds arpeggiatorish. overall, it's pretty chaotic. really neat tones and effects are possible, but you have to do a little digging to find the right settings.

i found the pedal sounds best when only high frequencies (2 to 5'oclock on the oscillator freq. knob) are used. Anything below that area tends to sound muddy.

blending in a tiny bit of the digital with the analogue (blend knob about 3 o'clock) adds something similar to the chaos modes in devi's pedals.

so that's what i have to say about that. :hobbes:
