Yeah, I've been thinking that I'd like to try to find some transcriptions of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and trying to work out the piano and sax solos on guitar..

if i ever finish it i'll have a transcription of Fripp's solo on Eno's "St. Elmo's Fire," which i copied into GarageBand so i can work it out note-for-note since it goes by too fast for me to write down.

I haven't bought it because the price seems a little high, but I kinda want something like this for slowing down solos so I can transcribe & learn them:

I'm not really into guitar solo in rock music... maybe some nirvana stuff.

Other than that, this would be great:

Syl, Joe Morris plays guitar as if it's a saxophone.

May as well start learning sax solos.

Yep... I like that type of guitar playing a lot.
Like Marc Ribot when he is playing Albert Ayler stuff. :joy:

Way back when, I built up my chops playing along to The Big 6 (Self titled-Sabotage) from Sabbath. Soon thereafter, I was jamming along to Abraxas by Santana. Each of those taught me a lot about phrasing. Pretty much from age 10-12 was spent learning metal solos. After that, I was all about learning J. Mascis's solos, Early Pumpkins stuff, and ish like that. Now I'm somewhat of a Pete Cosey-Electric Mud/The Howlin' Wolf album disciple. Talk about phrasing-shee-it  But I agree with the aforementioned "learning horn/piano/keyboard parts for guitar" approach. Additionally, learning to play vocal melodies on guitar would seem to help tremendously with phrasing. Brian May achieved legendary status doing just that-so many of his solos are just elaborated-upon versions of what Freddie was singing.

oh man that solo still gives me chills. its influenced me so much, but when soloing i can't do the sustained melodic brain-vomit that fripp and some fusion dudes do, and get stuck in the really common (even to master soloists) of making like... punctuated ideas, sorta.

i think it might be a bit easier than it sounds, because its mostly major pentatonic hammer ons n junk
