Wow thank you so much onyxrhino for the Boss PS-5 suggestion ! The guy sounds incredible on that video ! Is it just fuzz+delay+PS-5 ?

He used to have the info up of what he used and what the settings were, but then he took it down at some point. He was using a Boss Reverb and Delay pedal. I can't remember which ones. And a tubescreamer of some type for dirt. I've forgotten what the delay and reverb settings were, but he said the PS-5 was sort of the key sound. It's on flutter, set to a slight detune, with the effect maxed (no "direct") and at its longest/slowest setting. The flutter effect works like a momentary switch. He just depresses it at random points throughout his playing. It really does sound great. Like a super heavy, slow trem arm bend that sounds alot like MBV (or like a record being pulled back).

The one thing that always bothered me originally about the PS-5 was that, in flutter mode, there is always sort of a digital sheen to your sound, even when you aren't bending. But I've learned that it doesn't really matter that much when you've got dirt and delay and stuff running already. It's not a corksniffer tone, it's not for tone purists, but it gets the job done for shoegaze pretty darn well.

The Flutter setting doesn't have any problems with chords, since it works like a vibrato/delay. The Trem Arm setting is similar, but strictly monophonic. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I actually use the PS-5 for this exact thing.

It's in the Chorus Section Only. I'm Playing a chord and then pressing the PS-5 to shift up to the second chord then releasing back down. The second verse features the jazzmaster trem arm. with enough drive and delay added they can sound nearly identical.

I play a jazzmaster so I can do the down bends all day. I use the PS-5 for bending UP. I set it up like so:
Trem Mode
+2 Semi-Tones (a second up)
Mix set full wet
adjust bend time to fit tempo of song (generally just short enough to end before switching to next section or chord. (9 o'clock on the song)

Full effects list on the song
Fuck Overdrive set to gritty boost->Mantra(lowgain) set to light overdrive (this is the stacked distortion tone from the chorus on)-> Clari(not) clone (set up as the weird tape warbles that are more pronounced in the begining but the pedal is on the entire time it only really affects the trail of a note or chord if you let it ring while strumming hard)->PS-5(see above)->Malekko 616 for some quick repeats on the clari(not) warbles

The end of the song I bring in some long running delay from my M9 and turn on various fuzzes etc while generally being a shitty guitar player.

I'm confused, do you want a chorus-like melt or a Kevin Shields style whammy?

For the first I'd just go with a Memory Boy, set the feedback and rate low and the modulation on high switched to chorus.

But if you want a whammy, you could kinda do what Dan Auerbach does with a PS-5

You could probably do it with the US600... but the buffers used on them shits suckkkkzzzzzz

I'd run the chain -Gain, -> PS-5 -> Mod, Verb, Delay

but from what I've seen the US600 could do everything the PS-5 could.

Still. I got my PS-5 used for like 60 bucks. it's worth it I'd say.

I've always wondered this myself. Never tried one, but according to most reviews I've read, it sounds like it would.

My main concern though, would be using the momentary switching for the Flutter setting, i.e. depressing the pedal each time you want to bend. That's alot of pressing/stress on a plastic pedal. And considering the joints are set up to be removed (to access the battery compartment), I would think that they would eventually give out. But that's just my thinking on it and why I've never gotten one to try (I got my PS-5 used for like $70 anyway, so it wasn't that much of a price difference).
