Well the update on the Minitaur sold me. I definitely was looking a DE 2.

Yeah. I mean, I'm not implying at all that the DE2 is better than the Minitaur, or that people should get the DE2 over the Minitaur. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the new stuff that's coming out. Just that there's something about the DE and the DE2 that seems to be calling my name...

Leipzig ordered last night. Also, ordered a pair of Yamaha HS-50 monitors earlier this week. I have a little bit left over... thinking about....
1. Avid Eleven rack (for recording guitars in our apartment)
2. A cheapy synth (ala Minitaur, MiniBrute, DSI, etc)
3. Some sort of drum machine

What do you guys think? Is there something else along those lines you'd spend $400-500 on?

Have any of you guys got your new synths in? If so, how are you liking them?

A buddy of a buddy went with the Eleven rack. After his initial OMG I HAZ A BUNCH OF AMPS MODELS, he kinda settled on the one sound he liked best and used it for everything. If you want it as your main recording interface where the amp models are a bonus it's a viable option. If you're getting it just for the amp models, not so much.

Have you thought about NI Maschine? Unless you're a colourfetishist and need colourcoding for 16 pads, you can pick up the MK I version for less than $400.

Do you have an iPad? Use that as drum machine. If not, i would get a drum machine. Love playing around with that.

I can definitely relate to that. I've used amp modeling plugins in the past, and after a couple of days of playing with all of the absurd presets I got bored and end up only using 1-3 settings. I would plan on doing the same. Probably focus on a Fender or two... maybe the Vox. I really only want it because I have no way of recording a half way decent guitar track right now... no nice mics or pres, average sounding amp, no ability to crank the amp, etc.

I do actually have an iPad. I already have ReBirth, iMaschine, iElectribe, Figure. I will probably use them a bit, but there's just something about not having any knobs to physically turn. I work much better with pots and buttons instead of a touch screen or mouse.

So awesome!

You guys are really selling me on the drum machine. Maschine is a great idea too. Before I make any decisions (or spend the next 2 weeks doing research online  ), what would be some hardware drum machine options you would consider? There are a couple that seem pretty interesting: Vermona DRM-1 and MAM ADX1, but it doesn't have to be along those lines though. Analog is not a requirement here.

If you like iElectribe, an Electribe EMX1SD runs $500. Has a so-so collection of samples, but it's tweakable and the synth voices are good for synthesizing drums. I use mine for traveling, to complement my TR-909 at home, and as a sequencer for other gear.

For something to bang out patterns with ready-to-use sounds, I liked the sounds on the Akai XR20 ($300) when I checked it out.
