Shoegaze vibrato...?

Post by jb2106 »

Hey guys ! :)

I'm a lefty Telecaster player and play some kind of psychedelic rock music. I would like to try some deep shoegaze experimentations. I understand Jaguar & Jazzmasters are must-have guitars when it comes to shoegaze thanks to their vibrato/whammy bars.

I've played lefty Japan Jaguar but I've never been a fan, I've always come back to my old Telecaster :)

So I was wondering, what pedal could get me close to that sound that Jaguar players have when they play with their whammy bars ?

I was thinking that maybe this could do the trick, around 3.15 :

I know you didn't like the Jaguar, but why not check out a Jazzmaster before turning to pedals?...they really are entirely different beasts (scale length, switching options, pickups)

Slap a bigsby on your tele.

But the midfi clarinot is lovely if you want a pedal.

I came into this thread to suggest the Sonic Crayon Vibrato for shoegaze. But you'll have to get in line behind me (not that there's really a formal line, as far as I can tell..)

But you'll want a Chet Atkins tremelo arm so you can really bend those chords while you strum. It's doable with the normal tremelo arm, but it's a pain in the pinky to do so.

as one who gays on a bigsby, you get used to it, and its not that bad. what bugs me more is the lump of metal that wont allow you to fully rotate the arm

to add to my quote, droning an open string helps. I tend to put pressure on the neck and body to bend the pitch as well. There are many ways around a whammy bar. Also should be noted there are other ways to shoegaze outside of whammy usage.

Anywho, pedal wise, any Cosmichorus, that Sonic Crayon mojo, Mid-fi Clarinot or the chorus in a Deluxe Memory Man, which is what I like to use. Set the depth of the chorus about half way and put some delay on... instant gaze tones.

I agree it's something you can get used to, but the Chet Atkins tremelo arm kinda defeats that lump of metal making the tremelo action fairly similar to the jazzmaster/jaguar trem
