I've been going back and forth with getting a laptop to use as a sampler (with Ableton, for example) or using an iPad. However, there's a lot of support, both software and hardware, for the iPad. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with using the iPad as a sampler or a looper and whether they think they're missing out from not having just a laptop. I figure I could put together loops with my desktop and put it on whatever I'm playing it off of, so I wouldn't necessary need it for production. I'm also interested in seeing if the iPad Mini would end up being useful for this or not.
What say you all?

And with all the other cooooool things you can do with Ableton, it seems like that would be the way to go!

So now I need to find the cheapest laptop that can run Ableton on it. Or maybe a Mac Mini plus a monitor? Something to also consider.

A laptop is going to give you more versatility but check out the app Sample Lab for the iPad. If you can live without importing your own samples into it than you should be fine.
