Help me find a DELAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA

Post by Boxbie »

So I'm looking for a delay with the following criteria:

Digital, for super long delay times (2000ms+)
Able to set regen to infinity for sound on sound fun
Some kind of tone roll off for the repeats (so they're a bit rolled off, not super glassy digital)
Pitch bending when delay time is tweeked
Tails
Tap tempo not required

So, what do you have for me?
I have had a bunch of delays, I'm actually thinking of a meat and potatoes dd-7. What else is out there?

Thanks- B

DOD DFX9.

Everything you asked for except a tone control... but for the price i doubt you'll beat it.

well it rules out pretty much all analog delays. DD7 gets a lot of love. Honestly if you want everything tho, I'd get the DD20. It's an awesome pedal and you can probably get one used for the same price as a new DD7

He also asked for tails, though (which, unless I'm severely mistaken, means the whole "delay trails off when you turn the pedal off" thing)... I don't think the DFX9 does that, does it? (Now, if it does, I will kick myself since it's been my go-to delay forever.)

The DFX9's repeats aren't at all glassy digital-like (I don't like saying "warm," but there is a nice late 80s/early 90s digital crunch to the repeats that I find very addictive) so the lack of a tone control won't be too much of a problem, I guess?

DD7. Most definitely. Another options for damn near infinite repeats on the cheap is EHX's #1 Echo.

The new Supa-Puss according to PGS's website has 3000ms of delay time... but the video and everything else I've seen has 900ms. But that has everything else on your list. And I don't know the delay time but the Flashback x4 has all that too, I think. But those are both $250, which is a good chunk of money.

Thanks for all the great replies.

You didn't miss the tails, I cunningly edited them in after the fact.

But yeah, the dod dfx9 is pretty close to the mark. I just missed one on they 'bay last night.

I'm trying to get away from super complicated big delays that don't take batteries.

Has anyone messed with the hardwired™ delay?

I've deduced that no small builders have access to chips with that length of delay at the moment, so I'm investigating the big boys.

But cheers, keep em coming!

Hardwired delay is ok. The footswitch ducks but it can be replaced.

Also; delay on batteries sounds like a bad idea
