Re: BOSS BC-2 Combo Drive (Impressions/Opinions)
yeah, if it sounds good, it sounds good
ive been crowin bout the ps6 maybe too much
i do like crackin a new pedal open
and seein that message in sharpie though
and having talked to the person that wrote it
i have some boss, vox, ehx, etc
and they have a place right next to handmades
i wouldnt start a
"dont waste yer money on algal bloom,GO BMP TONEWICKER"thread here though
i know you dudes who build here
love the way the shit you build, mod, etch, etc
looks and sounds when you box it up
im not sure anyone at boss cares
boss wouldnt have sent me an email sayin
hey, there MIGHT be a prob with your pedal
send it back, well check it out
and well send it back to you with a free tshirt
my guess is id listen to a recording tellin me to
push buttons for an hour
to talk to someone who dont like electric guitar
im gettin spoiled with you dudes
quality components, skilled craftsmen, and customer service are rare nowadays
and i like knowin whos jizzy fingers touched my shit- bottom line

Cheaper the better.
Not going to buy boutique for the sake of board snobbery.
People are gonna use whatever they use. If you like the sound, use it.
Boss needs no hypeman.
Sometimes "cheap" comes with "baggage". Sometimes "boutique" does too. I'd rather support human beings than large corporations though.

Re: BOSS BC-2 Combo Drive (Impressions/Opinions)
if there was links to "reviews"(amazon store)in the op
this would be easy to solve
a year ago i was playin through a modelling amp
and since, back when, i only used amp distortion,
i asked super weird questions
and in the end i had to find out for myself
mostly by buyin cheap shit what i liked
there was a bunch of misses
and if every behringer was tits
id have a plastic board
some are
some arent
try and let us know when they work, storm
but remember
your email from here comes from fuzzhugger.com
they know where you live
(well,not really)

I'm sure you know that AC30+Treble booster= sexy time. Overall the quality and tones justify the extra $100. I'm not jumping on the ''YOU MUST BE A SPY FROM BOSS" bandwagon, but as Chankgees said, most of the people here are more than willing to support boutique builders.
If you want to love Boss pedals, I made a thread for Boss pedal appreciation a while back. I doubt anyone would criticize you there.
viewtopic.php?f=149&t=25995
Oh for the love of....
Thank you, madmax1012, for at least explaining why you think the Catalinbread is a superior product. I don't care if I start a thread about a particular BOSS pedal and every single post talks about how it sucks and names some alternatives. What I don't get is the "How dare you post about BOSS on our forum" stuff. There's elitism everywhere, but ILF is by far the worst.
There has to be a forum...somewhere...to discuss guitar-related products with other knowledgeable people and determine what's good and what's crap. The Combo Drive isn't a DS-1, or even a BD-2...it hasn't even been out for two years, and barely anyone has tried it. Reviews on Amazon for that type of thing are few and far between, and people don't start threads on them (especially on ILF) for fear of the snobs jumping all over them and hijacking the thread. Joyo pedals pop up a few years ago, and people assume they sucked because they're $40 and from China. Turns out that a lot of people don't think they suck, and that people who are never going to be able to buy a $250 dirtbox can buy a Joyo (or, yes, even a BOSS, DigiTech, or Danelectro) and have that be their "gateway" drug to finding better (and more expensive) equipment down the road. All you're doing is discouraging people who are trying to get involved in a very addictive hobby, and who will later funnel money to the same "cool" pedal brands everyone on message boards agrees about anyway.
I really give up on ILF, unless I'm interested in something with Wampler, Fulltone, or Catalinbread in front of the name. The irony of it is that I spend more time on various boards complaining about the BOSS stuff I own (and have sold), yet I find one BOSS pedal I happen to like, and suddenly I'm a Boss "acolyte". Well, thanks anyway for the discussion.

I doubt you're every gonna come back to ILF and you probably won't see this, but there's hardly any catalinbread, wamper, fulltone love here. if by "elitism" you mean ILF supported builders like Dr. Scientist, Fuzzhugger, EQD, SS/BS/DFAS then yeah I guess we're "elite".

Re: BOSS BC-2 Combo Drive (Impressions/Opinions)
A lot of this stuff is generational as well; Boss was literally the only game in town for decent stuff in the 80s and early 90s.
EHX stuff, when you could find it, was used, battered, and broke if you looked at it funny.
A bass player I knew killed a Big Muff of whatever stripe he could find with consistency about once a month.

Yes, we've won the internet.

That's kinda too bad, but attitude goes in both directions. And you also have to have the judgement to determine how open a conversation is gonna be before initiating it. Obviously, if you wanna trumpet the attributes of a certain Boss pedal, ILF may not always be the best place to do it. We don't hate Boss pedals across the board here, it's just that there're other pedal builders we collectively like better. ILF is what it is and what it is ain't perfect. What it is is a place to discuss things we commonly hold in interest. Apparently, what you wanna discuss falls outside our area of interest. Hopefully you'll find a forum that's more responsive to your needs, but know that you're always welcome to post here what you want. Just be aware that you may not get the response you expect.

Re: BOSS BC-2 Combo Drive (Impressions/Opinions)
Storm, if you're still interested in ILF, just hang around for a while - you'll start to get the tone of the place here. People are chill, even when they come across as harsh. The internet is a funny place. I've said this in one of your other posts, and ILF is cliquey about what pedals get a lot of love here, but that's the case at any forum, and when you have a look at the hosted forums here it kinda makes sense. TGP has its holier than thou pedals, as does HCFX and probably plenty of other places. It's the nature of the beast that a new Fuzzhugger is going to get way more excitement than a similar product from... well... pretty much anyone. But again, a lot of the builders are really active here and people develop real (or as real as you get on the netz) relationships to the builders. I loves me some Boss, I've got two on my gigging board at the moment and they're probably not moving any time soon, and two on the home board, but I have zero relationship to Boss. I buy their stuff from whoever, I use it, Boss never hears from me, I don't influence the design process, they don't care if I want to influence the design process, the art is pretty well secondary to the functionality etc etc. Compare to my Dr Scientist Elements, where I know Ryan's wife designed the aesthetics of the enclosure, I got a birthday discount, the pedal is signed inside, Ryan (the Doctor of Doctor Scientist) knows me by name, I followed the thread where Ryan discussed the features people wanted in a distortion etc etc etc. This isn't unusual, it's how the builders roll here, and it does engender a certain rabidity to one's pedal nerding.
ILF = good people for the most part. There's plenty of Boss love around here - check out how many people have BF-2s on their boards in the "Show us your pedalboard" thread - you've just gotta find the "right" way to talk about Boss or other large scale manufacturers (or even non-ILF manufacturers, like Wampler), knowing the audience who's reading your posts.
For my part I hope ya stick around, this place is good fun and you'll get the hang of it.

Re: BOSS BC-2 Combo Drive (Impressions/Opinions)
And a quick addendum - unless it's one of the hosted builders' ODs, there's not that much talk about overdrives here. Unless you're stacking the SHIT out of em to make a wall of fuzz
. - it is "I love fuzz" after all. A lot of folks here are after slightly more out there sounds

Re: BOSS BC-2 Combo Drive (Impressions/Opinions)
I want my guitar to sound like I'm strangling a cat with a dog's tail and the dog is being put through the garbage disposal.
There's no Boss pedal that does that, although I must admit the old ME-6B's synth module did a pretty close approximation but it was more woodchipperesque in tone.
