Longfellow Guitars

Post by skullservant »

Another interesting aluminum guitar luthier. Also makes aluminum lapsteels and does a bunch of odd things like add speakers and weird hardware.

Can do aluminum necks as well as wood necks too!

I dig that hollowbody. But does anyone think that the roughness of its finish would be a problem? :idk:

Wonder if it's good for metal?

I dig the unfinished look of the aluminum, that's awesome.

I like the raw look, but that headstock & nut layout looks a little rough....

Playing guitar is super physical, so for me a guitar should feel nice. It is a tactile experience and I shouldn't have to be concerned with scratching myself on a burr or jagged f-hole (those ain't water-jet cut). Unless of course if you wanna feel uncomfortable to make uncomfortable music too...I like raw, unfinished things, and I like looking at these, but I unsure what these would be like to play....That being said they are stunning to look at.

Yeah, the same way that a well-made piano is known for its "piano black" finish, I expect high-end finishes from a guitar. That said, they don't all have to be super-gloss or typical bursts or whatever. And I really dislike poly finishes that a lot of mass-produced guitars had starting in the 80's.

I've held some "natural finish" / oil finish guitars that felt super nice because the time and care was taken to make it feel nice. :idk:

I love the oil finish on my Telemaster. It just makes it feel like it is something to be played rather than kept immaculate, you know? Maybe the same goes for the mindset behind the not-so-finished aluminum?

Depends on whether it's smooth to the touch and just looks rough, or if it actually snags on stuff and generally feels like a bar of aluminum stock that someone rough-filed into shape and didn't finish? :idk:

yeah, totally. And unlike Wishbass, dudes aren't going to be able to really 'refine' the designs or smooth out the aluminum as easily I wouldn't think
