Yeah. I've stuck to pedals for now. Worked on my Valve Juniors for the experience of working on an amp, but the thought of being zapped again (as I had been) fooling around with a transformer carelessly during operation just completely makes me want to leave it to someone who understands current 10000x better than I hahah

greigoroth wrote:I'd build pedals before I'd build an amp. AC power and high voltage tubes and fat ass capacitors scare me. At least building pedals if I get zapped not much happens and you can practise soldering and getting used to dealing with electricity safely.

Yeah that's the worry. I can build pedals reasonably compentently if I work slowly and am careful, but I can be kinda clumsy so high voltage stuff is worrying. I'll probably just leave it till I have more experience handling electricity/never.

Wondering if I could build a plexi having no previous experience.

I built the princeton had no issues whatsoever was really high quality too! I still can't build pedals properly but my amp worked no issues. Most ceriatone amps come with the boards already done so it's just a whole lot of offboard wiring. Like a lot and connecting the trannies etc

I think you just need to be properly careful so you know where shoes don't plug it in while you work on it. Test the caps with a proper voltage discharger before you have a go with it using bare hands. It was pretty easy though and I definitely got an awesome amp at the end

Man, I have barely scratched the surface of the Moog Awesomeness right there....I can verify that there is a very high fun factor. As well as shit eating grin factor.
