New Witchcraft album

Post by drkieck »

I love the 1st 3 albums, very old school and dark sounding. New one... well...

It has only 2 of the original members and it is way too polished my taste. Thoughts?

I dig it. I'm sure that I'm in the minority, though, especially when it comes to people who enjoyed the older stuff.

I like good clear production, but the older stuff had the best feel to it - The Witchcraft moniker sounded more legitimate to the music. The new clean album doesn't have that dreary, spooky vibe to it. I think their best was The Alchemist.

I should go back and revisit the old stuff - I don't know if I gave it proper due when I first listened. May be time to reacquaint myself!

I suggest The Alchemist: Great songs, great performances, and overall great musicianship with the original line-up. Top 10 album in my book.

A big disappointment for me. :idk: But I got the impression that the band was close to being put to death altogether, so... wiht the new one, there is hope of return.

Well with only 2 original members left and a slew of new musicians with more direct approach, it kills the original feel of the band to me IMHO

I disappointed me as well. When I listen to this and then listen to Lady Winter, it honestly makes me sad. I like the not perfect recordings of the first albums, like how his voice gets crackly when he sings high, and the guitars mix in perfectly... but the new stuff isn't terrible so I still have hope for them.

Well put. I couldn't agree more.

Still have to give the new stuff a chance... the few songs I heard I was not digging at all. I was really into the S/t and Firewood, they started losing me a little bit with the alchemist. Graveyard on the other hand can apparently do no wrong.

Great album. I am enjoying multiple spins of it. Can't understand the distaste for this record I keep reading about. As good as The Alchemist so far.
