Pedal gone silent when off

Post by Doctor X »

so i have a hand made overdrive pedal, standard true bypass switch.
it always worked fine, very good build quality, had very light use, looks in perfect new condition.
i put it away in a box for a few months but now the pedal still works perfectly when its 'on' but switching it off it's completely silent, no signal throughput at all.

i tried clicking it on and off a lot in case it just had a dirty contact but no difference.
looked inside, very neat quality wiring, cant see any loose wires.

it was just sitting in a box, i dont understand what could have happened to it.

if anyone has any ideas what i could try i would be very grateful, thanks

It's probably just mad at you for putting in a box for a few months. Take it out to dinner and a movie, get it a gift unexpectedly, and things should return to normal.

Sounds like a wire on your footswitch might have somehow come loose or snapped. It was probably just pissed for being put away haha. Gutshots!

we were having a trial separation to see how we really felt about things, i didn't think she'd be lonely in there with all the other unused pedals .... oops, do you think they all hate me as well?

how am i to know that all she really wants is for me to be sticking jacks in her all day while she rolls around on the dirty floor, if she doesn't talk to me anymore?

Puzzling. Especially if you say it works while engaged. It's gotta be something with the switching to the off position of either the switch or the connection on the switch

see that black bridge wire going diagonally across lugs on the stomp-switch? audio goes through there when the pedal is bypassed (off). check to see if that wire is loose. if it looks firmly connected, then my guess is that the switch is shot. probably in the lower half somewhere.

yeah, all the wiring appears to be fine, i guess that i'll just have to replace the whole switch
