The correct answer is "all of them."

Bee Baa is an original circuit I am pretty sure of that. I think it has some similarities to one of the classic Shin-Ei circuits, but I'm not sure.

Oh, and Brian wisely added a hi-cut knob which eliminates the abrasive/piercing nature of a standard SF circuit. Smart decision on his part.
Thank god. That alone pretty much sold me on the Super Puzzle.
Hmmm...
Looks like there are lots of options out there though. I'm not really looking for a super traditional one, I've just heard so many good things about them.
It mostly started at a party when I ended up talking to this guy in a rad band, with a rad sound. Turns out he uses a V4, a Garnet Herzog, and orignal Univox Superfuzz, and a Rat.
He said most of his sound is the superfuzz. I had never really taken it seriously before for some reason, because it sounded so harsh to me. His tone is anything but harsh.
Thanks dudes. I'll probably pick one up in the next month or so. Waiting on some money atm.

You can get them for 90 to 100 dollars on Craig's or the bay.

Re: What's your favourite Superfuzz?
My favourite is a grey and black univox I have, it's nearly as harsh as a FZ-2, but less glitchy on chords. Can even manage a percussive palm muted sound too.
I've enjoyed every superfuzz or variant I've played but this one just seems less picky and always awesome.
They don't have to be harsh though, I've got an ibanez standard fuzz that's a bit darker, woolier sounding, does that fu manchu rhythm sound really well.

Superpuzzle is the only one I remember trying. I like it alot though I don't use it as much as I probably should. I would like to try the bass version sometime.

The BeeBaa is a descendent of the Ace Tone Fuzz Master.ALLisNOISE wrote:Alright, so this may be a little off topic, but I've always thought of the FZ-2 was Boss's "reimagining" of the Roland BeeBaa.

FWIW, and as noted above, the Voodoo Lab Super Fuzz is a Jordan Bosstone, which is completely different (they got threatened by Boss so couldn't use the Bosstone name, then those assholes turned around and did the same thing to Wattson for their SuperFuzz).
But if you like the Super-Fuzz, try out an Ibanez Standard as well. Very similar, but different in a good way.

Re: What's your favourite Superfuzz?
i had a boss hyper fuzz about 12 years ago in high school and it was pretty rad. i recently had a tubby paisley superfuzz one off i got from devnulljp and it was equally as cool! right now i have a bare enclosure fredric effects superfuzz and it slays! a hint more upper octave and weird ring mod esque sounds than the previous two at certain setting through my rig. it was pretty cheap direct ($129 shipped from across the pond) and fredric effects makes some killer shit!

I have only had the fz-2. Mode 2 sounds like a rusty chainsaw slicing into bone.

Re: What's your favourite Superfuzz?
I'll second the need for a Standard Fuzz in addition to a Super Fuzz. It's just got some extra teeth on it in my opinion. I got a Standard Fuzz that John Lyons did, and it is an octave-up scrambled nasty gangster. Love that thing. For Super Fuzzes I have a Super Puzzle (which is great as has been said) and a Devi Silver Rose (which is also great but sounds way different than the Super Puzzle.) The Silver Rose has this metallic sound that the Puzzle does not. Both are awesome though.
I've also gotta put a plug in for Ace Tone Fuzz Masters. The Earthquaker Fuzz Master General is a killer killer take on that circuit. That thing is awesome. Crazier than Super Fuzz, but not as crazy as a Standard Fuzz maybe. I'd need to pull them all out and run some tests...

I've got a Shin-ei Companion 8Tr Fuzz-wah - contains the Superfuzz circuit I think? The fuzz is great (as is the wah IMO) but I'm selling it because the BYOC Leeds Fuzz I built is actually a little grittier and I prefer it.

The Malekko Fuzz has a 3 way switch that lets you combine the two modes.

I love the smell of solder in the morning.
