What's your favourite Superfuzz?

Post by Fuzzy Picklez »

I just realized this is probably the only "classic" fuzz circuit I've never actually tried.
I also hear everyone talking about them. Everyone. They are seriously appearing everywhere around me.
I want one. What should I get?
I'm thinking something like the Superpuzzle. The Voodoo labs Superfuzz looks pretty cool too though.
I have no budget, but of course cheaper is better.
WHAT SHOULD I GET?

I think the Voodoo Lab Super Fuzz is actually a Jordan Bosstone based circuit.

I thought they were similar for some reason.
Is that not the case?

Well, they're both fuzzes. I don't think they sound too similar. Bosstones sound great too though.

I used to have an Audio Monk Fuzzpotion that sounded pretty nice. It was loud too. Well, one of the modes was.

I know a guy who builds a Superfuzz with footswitchable modes and a boost on the front end.
Love it!!!!

i use an MJM China Fuzz, it sounds spot on to the Mudhoney 'Superfuzz/BigMuff' album sound, and mjm says it's an exact remake of the original.

SS/BS/DFAS Super Puzzle is great. I think i have no other super fuzz nor tried any other. So can't say if it is "original" but it nails the idea of a super fuzz for my taste pretty excellent. Plus highly tweakable.

I've tried the Black Cat and ss/bs Super Puzzle. I prefer the Super Puzzle by a long shot, a pimped out SF with footswitchable octave, toggles for clipping and "flip" modes, like nothing else I've seen offered, EVER!

Oh, and Brian wisely added a hi-cut knob which eliminates the abrasive/piercing nature of a standard SF circuit. Smart decision on his part. :thumb:

+1 same here

The starve is really awesome.

Behringer actually makes a pretty rad sounding Superfuzz too if you just wanna try it out. IMO the whole idea with this circuit is to get kindof a ratty sloppy fuzz so going cheap isn't really a bad thing :idk:

Super Puzzle is great if you are looking for something based on, but a whole lot advanced from the traditional Superfuzz.

I've also tried the Black Cat and the Wattson FX. Wattson was pretty damn badass I would recommend that for the more classic take on the circuit.

Wattson is pretty much as close as you can come to owning an original without like...owning an original. But, my fav is definitely
Image

It's just louder. Like, way fucking loud. Which is cool.

Inversely, I wanna try the super puzzle, because I have a perpetual SS/BS boner.

Everyone needs a superfuzz so they can accurately do this.

I got the super puzzle boner (bonehair). It is highly versatile but can nail the classic superfuzz sounds. Put some reverb after for insto cramps toooooooaaaaannnnnnz!

Alright, so this may be a little off topic, but I've always thought of the FZ-2 was Boss's "reimagining" of the Roland BeeBaa.
Bringing it all full circle:
Where does the BeeBaa fall in the realm of classic fuzzes? Does it trace it's lineage back to the Superfuzz (or vice versa...)?

the fz-2 sounds like a superfuzz on roids and I am not mistaken it is a modded superfuzz circuit.
