i thought y'all would have a beef with how the industry is so focused on metal guitars that are just kinda fueling an industry based on image emulation and uncreativity and other junk like that

True, I do hate all those metal guitars. Also that jag/jazz trem system thing is gold. Easily my favourite trem design ever.

My main bass is korina so I am aware of how that wood works, and I have played enough PRSs to have the opinion that they are good but not up to the hype.. granted I haven't played that model but.. I have played old Ibanez korinia models and they destroy [ ;) ] most other guitars so I am not all that surprised by how you feel :thumb:

I played a used PRS custom 24. it was at a great price, and it played/sounded alright, but i just didn't click with it. Not saying it was a terrible guitar, I've just played nicer guitars in the price range

no PRSs don't need to go away, they're awesome

just some people who use them need to disappear

and btw... i'm ot an LP person at all, but one of the new Epi standard LPs really blew my mind :) both aesthetically and feeling-wise

+1 on relicing...i can put dings in my guitars all too well on my own, kthxbai.

ugly headstocks: pointy metalloid, Seagull-style narrower at top than at bottom, bad logo choices a la Agile. a bad headstock ruins the look of an otherwise beautiful guitar more than anything else.

overwound PUs. more than ~8.5kohms sounds muddy and gets weird in the upper harmonic series to me.

"reissue" guitars with major differences from the originals, e.g. a Les Paul Special with a Tunomatic and a stop tailpiece. Eastwood is, of course, egregious in this (a "Wandre" with a maple neck? really?), but Gibson has a penchant for putting Les Paul stop tails on EVERYTHING including Flying Vs and Firebirds, where they're just WRONG.

Sitka spruce acoustic guitar tops. Adirondack and Englemann spruce are respectively more full-bodied and more clear and open in the trebles.

locking tuners. i find absolutely no benefit to them regarding tuning stability, and their only useful application seems to be speeding up string changes.

actually i'd disagree with radically different reissues completely. case in point: epiphone coronet reissue. fabulous guitar in every respect, it just doesn't fit into any of the need niches people refuse to give up.

I honestly can't fathom what it must be like to see any guitar and think "Hmmm, I could play/buy that." I hate being left handed.

Bad headstock design is a huge one with me. Also, Gibson reissuing old basses that were made in the 70's to be cheap, but now they cost $2K or something. That's dumb.

Or, the three point gibson bridge. GUYS IT SUCKS, EVERYONE KNOWS, JUST QUIT IT.

Lack of switches on basses.

The fact that humbuckers on most new basses are those soapbar kinds. WHY NOT TRY SOMETHING ELSE GUYS, WE'RE NOT ALL DADS WHO GO ON TALKBASS.

The fact that the two p-bass pickup config isn't commonplace nowadays.

Floyd Rose trems. EVEN KAHLERS ARE BETTER, C'MAW.

1. a) "What? You play in C#, you need a Baritone"
...b) People putting excessively thick gauge strings for not so excessively detuned guitars, you don't need anything more than a 60 for a low C. 13-56 for B Standard on a 24.75 is all i've ever needed.
2. Nearly every cheap/mid range guitar has to have a bad Veneer flame/quilt for it to sell
3. b00tique guitar companies that make HSS that look and feel similar to Fender MIA strats for twice the price.
4. Insanely Light guitars
5. People buying 7 Strings, don't even use the Bottom String and think that they're better than you because they are a true ERG user.

Oh man I forgot about the stupid Gibson 3-point bridge.
Rickenbacker bass bridges also blow, but not as much.

conversely: people who buy 7 strings just to ride on the 7th string and never use anything higher than the 12th fret

the ABR-1 Tunomatic--the one with the single "spring" piece of wire holding the heads of the saddle adjustment screws in place--needs to die. it's particularly horrible on guitars with a Bigsby or Maestro...the saddles woggle around like a poor man's teeth as they welcome you to Intonation Hell. and Epiphone in particular insists on using it on all their vibrato-equipped guitars.
