I've seen them go for $350ish with a hardshell.
Maybe look for a roughed up one without a case?

i used to have a t-15. it fucking ruled.

I have a T-15, it rules, can't go wrong with one. The one I have is really beat up and the case is too, but I got it for $190. It would be worth it to buy one just for the pickups.

Yeah, I kinda want to find another one, but they seem to be getting more pricey. I feel like an idiot for trading it. I traded it for a semi-hollow ibanez talman, which ended up breaking...And then I traded it for two shitty pedals. This was before I knew anything about music equipment...

I got mine at the "Texas Guitar Show" when it came through Chicago. If it comes by your town or near you I would recommend checking it out. Whenever I'm down south visiting family I'll stop by a guitar store, they always have amazing stuff because they don't get sucked dry like some city stores.

As far as ones I have actual experience with:

dot studio
jagmaster
CV or VM teles

Most of these would have to be used to be that cheap, though.

I did, however, just discover that Ibanez makes a $200 Explorer, which intrigues me...

Anything Peavey. The ones made in the 90s in particular, but anything Peavey will be amazing. The 90s ones were all handmade by master luthiers, but their hideous logo ensures that their prices will stay low. Every used Peavey guitar from that era has blown me away. The greatest one I played was a Wolfgang with a double locking vibrato. I hate the way those guitars look and this one was extra ugly (pearl teal with a maple neck - barf), but goddammit if it wasn't one of the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever had my mitts on - and it was $200. I didn't buy it because I didn't have the money, but I still kick myself for not snapping it up on the spot, and that was probably ten years ago.

Go here and do a search. It's way easier and safer than eBay.

TL;DR: Peavey.

Hofner makes a guitar called the colorama, which i've seen as low as 120. I got mine from a friend for under that. It's a really solid built instrument, with really good tone. Mine came with mini humbuckers, but i've also seen the with p-90s.

Trying to decide between the Squier VM Jazzy standard model and the VM Jazzy Special. Is the hard tail and simpler switching on the Special worth it?

Danelectro. They're fun and sound great clean or fuzzy.

just played one of the new squier jags. if the logo had been covered up, i would've thought it was the real deal.
