vs.
I'd be curious to hear people's opinions on these two because I was looking at the Power Stack and then realized (after watching some demos and really thinking about what both pedals do) that these are very similar pedals.
BOSS uses digital modeling to basically give you a "Marshall in a box" (wheras the Combo Drive is like a VOX in a box, from what I hear), and it morphs from "crunch" to pretty high-gain on the ultra setting.
Similarly, the Marshall Guv'nor IS a Marshall product, and people have described the lower gain sounds as a "Plexi", while it becomes more JCM-900 as you turn it up.
Reasonable minds can differ on any pedal, though I've heard a lot of people complain about the Guv'nor being a bit too muffled. My amp is a smaller VOX Valvetronix combo, however, so my primary goal is to avoid the shrill, harsh trebles on the higher volume. There is also apparently a simple clip modification you can do to the Guv'nor that really opens it up (clipping the C-22 node).
Note: After almost buying the Power Stack on like 10 different occasions, and having it fall through for one reason or another, I've got the Marshall GV-2 ordered on eBay. I've played the Power Stack at Guitar Center, but never even seen the GV-2 "in person" yet, so I had to try it out.
Thoughts?
