Pedal trends that need to go away

Clean blend done right is ok, but I also agree. I like to leave a clean blend almost all the way off. Seems like a waste. My fucking Megalith didn't need a damn clean blend. Lows forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!


I think there are too many fucking Rat clones, Muff clones, and just off the wall fuzzes in general. I hate sputtering fuzzes. HATE them. There is no way to use them in any music context for me. I've tried and do not like them. I always turn that shit off if it's an option. I like thick, meaty, juicy...wait what are we talking about? Anyway, I like a wall of fucking fuzz. Lots of sustain and lows.

I also agree with making your pedal bass friendly. Alan @ Mountainking is really leading the industry with this. His are the first pedals I've tried that I instantly thought "wow this was made for bass". At least fuzz wise.

300 bucks for any fucking pedal is too much unless it's a multi effect. I don't care how cool it sounds. It's too God damn much!

dudes i love the clean blend, or more so the separate clean/dirty volumes, but i can see where yall are coming from on the guitar/bass tip. and totes agree if you're gunna make a pedal for bass, JUST MAKE IT SOUND GOOD ON BASS. PERIOD.

i use mine primarly on drums and synths, and having the option of bring in and out mix and matching the clean and dirty volumes really adds alot of versatility and tonal options. plus having it for drums is like a necessity to keeping those bass drums smacking.

i wish more things came with separate clean/dirty volume controls. (like fucking compressors....why barely any compressors do this?) parallel compression is the BOMBDIGGITY

Clean blends. Just... Blech. You know what, if you want bassists to buy your pedal, how about designing to actually sound good on bass. Don't just puss out by adding a clean blend and calling it a day. Goddamn I fucking hate that stacked clean+fizzy sound. Just stop. I don't care if Muse does it.

I mean as a guitarist it's cool to use my TAFM to blend other fuzzes with through the clean blend, but I understand the frustration with clean blend bass fuzz pedals. I've never liked playing my bass that way. And I can't think of many current fuzzes that are directed towards bass that don't have clean blend. I don't mean to belabor over the sillyness, but you saying that made me think of how I never use a clean blend fuzz on bass, but always see bass pedals advertised as such.

Also, I'm sick and tired of these cheap ass looking knobs. They never look good on any pedal I've received that has them.

Says the guy with the Megalith. I definitely share you mantra on fuzz. Sputtering fuzzes... meh. Most self oscillating fuzzes... le sigh. I want my fuzz to sound like I am smacking you in the ear with my watermelon sized testicles.

Can I add to the list companies with the word "tone" in their name? I'm so sick of all the Superior Tone Pedals, and the God's Prefered Tone Effects, or any other name referring to the builder's exclusive knowledge of what true tone is. I feel like too many builders take themselves too seriously. It's just a damn pedals.

Oh, and while I'm kind of near the same neighborhood of the subject... how come there is always such a great debate cloning... especially part-for-part clones of pedals, but no one ever gives two shits about the subject in the amp/guitar/synth world?

Oooow! I agree with this one. The best looking Skin Pimp I've ever seen was the one he made with the window on the top revealing the guts inside. Everyone knows that's where the true artwork is.

Also, while I'm on the rant, I don't like using pedals at unity gain. WHAT THE SHIT IS THAT FOR. WHY TURN IT ON IN THE FIRST PLACE.

TRUE DAT, but F pedals that are marketed and sold with so much gain as to make them almost unusable. Volume is great, but if I have to put a limiter after it you (plural) can go fuck yourself.

I'm with bigchief on clean blend, horrible on fuzz/OD. If your fuzz circuit cuts lows and you're marketing to bass players clean blend just strikes me as a lazy workaround, and it never sounds good, to me. It's like saying hey, if you don't like what our product does to your signal don't worry, you can blend it out. I agree it can be good for stacking, but I don't stack fuzzes in particular. A good end of chain OD stacks better with fuzz for me.

I also am not a fan of the "analog sounding" name attached to some digital delays, just call it digital, it's OK. I don't care if it's digital as long as it's awesome.

I don't have one of those true-bypass strip thingies, but I could see it being useful for turning multiple pedals on and off all at once. I do that with a Boss LS-2, I threw 4 pedals I usually use together into loop A just so I can turn them on and off as a group.

I am OK with that I have my feedback looper setup now to control about 5 pedals as a TB loop when not feedbacking stuff.
It's those gigrig setups where they run each pedal through it's own loop
I don't get how adding 30 feet of cable and twice the connectors to your setup helps anything
