How many bands do you play in?
Do any of you play in more than one band? Why? Are the bands similar in there genre? How much creative say-so do you have in each band? Is time management a beeeeetch?

I play in one, but I've been trying to start up a second one with dude's scattered everywhere and in other bands.
Needless to say, it's not going so well.

Re: How many bands do you play in?
Three - one originals thing that's currently midway through reinventing itself, one recording-only experimentation project, and one cover band.
All of 'em are very flexible time-wise, since we all have a lot of stuff going on. In the originals, I'm one of two decision-makers, the recording only thang is just me, and in the cover band all four of us have equal say.
All of them are completely different from the others, and each serves a different personal need. The originals is my way to play out and rock out my own shizz (as well as to intentionally work with a co-writer who comes at things from a very different angle from myself). The recording-only is there as a stress relief and for me to be a total svengali without worrying about anyone else's feelings. And the covers band is because it's nice once or twice a year to have a crowd dance and shake their asses because they know all of the songs and just want to have a good time.

I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Re: How many bands do you play in?
None.
I'm not good enough to play in a cover band and I've nobody to play with anyway.
Although, I was playing mandolin outdoors the other day and some random woman offered me a gig. She got mad when I declined. She apparently didn't believe me when I told her I really didn't know how to play the mandolin and barely even knew three chords on it.

Just a bunch of one-man projects cause finding a drummer where I live let alone into the stuff I play around here is hopeless.

I play in a harcore band which is currently on the hunt for another drummer. We've gone through four and it's beginning to get real fuckin' old. I make some shitty IDM on my laptop too.

Re: How many bands do you play in?
I'm in two bands, one is a cover band, the other is originals. They are completely different styles of music, and serve as very different types of outlets for me. In both bands, decisions as to creative direction is handled democratically, which is a pain the butt in my originals band since it's just 2 of us. When we disagree on something, it is hell trying to come to a decision.

Re: How many bands do you play in?
One that I am defacto leader (not an ego thing, just that the other two members are indecisive as shit and need somebody to drive them). They also have considerable creative input and the bassist writes more than half of our songs, I'm just the one who says, "Hey let's do some work now."
Apart from that I'm not in any other official groups. I have a couple potential projects that have yet to really manifest themselves, and I've FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY figured out a way I could do a solo project that would be reasonable, able to sustain an audience and remain artistically fulfilling. So look out for Phantom Spaceman in the near future.

This, but not because I can't find a drummer. It's just that I don't like playing with anyone.

Currently only one, which is less than ...in a looooooooong time.
But I like to collaborate more with friends and with whomever is cool and in need of a favor and is likely to return it. Or simply pays. Not necessarily in cash. I wish I was there when an old band mate told their record company reps I had written their lyrics and asked the payment full in beer

None... no interest for me to play cover and no interest for others to play my stuff.

Re: How many bands do you play in?
I've never really found anyone to play with. Tracking down people from CL is lame (I've been stood up at coffeeshops / bars waiting for people from CL that wanted to meet up and talk about playing music together), and going to shows never really paid off in finding people who were into the same kind of music.
Ya'll musicians are flakey.
The upside is that, at this point, I basically decided that I'm just going to learn more instruments and record albums myself, that'll never be able to do live because I can't play everything at once. OR CAN I.

Re: How many bands do you play in?
err...4 for now
One band, which is the one i started and where im the main songwriter, is on break now since 2 of the members just became first time parents. This band plays a mix of psych /kraut/dreampop/noise stuff
second band is currently active and we're all here on ILF
. This band plays kosmiche/drone/synth improvs
third band is not really a band but more of an avant garde collective of musicians. We dont practice and we all improv on the spot if there is a show.
forth band is one I just got involved in. This one is playing "ambient americana" , I guess a mix of stuff from Hammock/Lanterna and such.....
so yeah, for now time management is still ok....but im not sure how it wll be when ALL band get active with shows LOL....
