for the record - this totally works and it's cheap as dirt: i used a headphone splitter (1 TRS plug to 2 TRS jacks) and plugged that into my phase pedal's exp jack - plugged my exp pedal into one side and a TRS to TRS cable to the other and then into my El Cap's EXP input - works perfect! controls both at the same time.
