what's the main difference between the bloom and the ab synth from those who owned them. do they cross over?

Dwarfcraft Shiva and Eau Clair Thunder are worthy of a listen as well. Tons of bass available with those.

In a word, no. Here is a comparison I made of the two (on guitar):

decomposing wrote:thanks for all the suggestions all. I was leaning towards the DBA Superfuzz Gun. but it's really pricey.
the AB synth had my eye and bought the fuzz factory. it's cool but left me wanting more. or less. ha.
the superfuzz puzzle looks cool, but then so does the DBA.

think fuzzhugger might be the way to go. they handle low end well? better than zvex?
I know it's gonna cut some but...

If you reaaallllyy want the DBA, there's a pretty cheap one on eBay right now...

Or you could ask Tom to make a bass Absynth.

is there something I'm missing on the DBA superfuzz, looks awesome and sounds killer. but probably the only one I really want of their line. their stuff is cool.
but the fuzzhugger stuff is where I should have gone originally I think now.
seems like a good fit.
I'll see what he thinks about the fuzz factory and his circuits.
thanks!

I don't think they're especially bass friendly though. Considering I've been wanting to give one a spin for a while, I'd say it's more in the ice pick made out of bees territory.

I'm too lazy to find the video, but Tom's made an oscillatin lab ratchet. That there is what you want.

:erm: perhaps, but it's still NOWHERE close to the pros of the Fuzzhugger AB-Synth fuzz.

Fuzz Factory oscillations pale white embarrased in comparison. The sensitivity, responsiveness, and the versatility of AB-Synth make it a usable synth feature in live situations, easily switched on and off from the second foot switch.

Also, AB-Synth retains the low end good enough for even a bass guitar, a ballsy low end. And there's PLENTY of gain to dial from there, if You're looking for that.

There is definitely overlap, but I find it to be a rather small spectrum. Atleast in my opinion the overlap is in the "tame" fuzz range. They both can get the same gritty, lo-fi'ish fuzz tone but that's about it in similarity. I use my AB synth for crazy super cut through the mix fuzz and my algal bloom most as my low gain distortion/overdrive.

Ah, yes, I forget this is the forum of "oscillation is the most important thing" :p
