What do you use all your gear for?
Everyone here obviously is into gear and talking about gear, but I'm just curious what you guys all use it for. Do you buy the latest/greatest pedal to take it on the road or to stare at?

I go on stage and make people listen to this stuff. So far people enjoy our oscillation and knob tweaking endings.

Re: What do you use all your gear for?
Kinda unfortunate you can only cast one vote - my band started out primarily as a studio project, but we've been playing shows for the last few months, so for me it's kinda both record and play out... but I cast my vote as "record" because I've been doing more of that than anything else for the past year or so.

I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

I play a lot of shows and luckily have enough toys to rotate in and out of my setup if I get bored.

Re: What do you use all your gear for?
I use some for shows and most for recording.
I use rehearsals as a testing ground for what I use live, it has to work well and keep up with the band at all times. I'm a bassist so I can have no low loss, no volume drops, no BIG spikes. I love quirky gear at home and in the studio for cool sounds but live I can't deal with that shit, which means no "weird" noisy fuzzes and no EHX stuff [well mostly ]. Amps: I like big tube amps with lots of headroom, I use a mesa 400+ and before that I used a SVT CL for 9-10 years and only blew it up once
As for the bass it's self again the same; I love weird and odd stuff and one trick ponies but live I use a Ibanez SR 5string with Bart JJ pickups, I can cover everything I need with this one bass and it has never given my any probs in 16+ years of owning it.

Re: What do you use all your gear for?
I have two separate bands. One is studio-only, so a lot of my wacky gear is for the studio. I am also in another band that is at least talking about gigging soon. I have a full pedalboard for that band too, but its mostly full of relatively mundane pedals.

Learning and just to mess around! Although, I hope to get myself versed in Pro Tools 8 so I can help out at the studio at my school.
Do you like listening to homemade music? Me too. Why don't you try one of mine?

I haven't played live in a long time.
I do recording mostly now.
there are times when I must go down and make horrendous noises just because it makes me happy.

Re: What do you use all your gear for?
Mines a longgg story, shortened down though...
Was and am a Pedal Junky
Worked in a studio for 2 years, left to go play myself and pursue my guitar and equipment love, Studio stage...
Didn't find anyone to jam with as I live in a small town, so...
Stopped playing for a year because I was too busy trying to do other things so crapped up and had to spend these past few months re-learning the guitar to a decent standard, which i'm still not happy with, but need someone to jam with to get it back up so that was the bedroom stage.
Went to live in a music orientated town, got drunk too often and couldn't get a job as the town was just full of other drunk musicians and pubs, my gigging stage.
Just started accumulating equipment to join a new band who i'm auditioning for as I sold alot off when unemployed and not playing, plus I'm just
trying to get my dream pedal board and not have to think of it much, accumulation stage that hopefully leads to a decent gigging stage again.
Oh and who voted I buy what people tell me too, your a bad, bad person...

Pretty much that. Played in a few gigging bands years ago then the cost of living took over as well as other pursuits. Now I'm happy in the bedroom making sweet glitchy noise to myself.

Re: What do you use all your gear for?
I've been playing drums in a band for the last couple of years.
I finally started a new band where I'm playing guitar. I'm collecting shiny things at the moment, getting ready to unleash them on unsuspecting audiences.
