P90's + Fuzz = ???
OK, I just got a new (to me) guitar amp. It's a Hughes & Kettner Dual 20 EL84 and I'm putting together a multipurpose bass and guitar pedalboard which will be a Pedaltrain JR with about 8 pedals: Tuner>Octron>???>TAFM>Phaser>Trem>Delay>Reverb. The ??? pedal was going to be an EDQ Tone Reaper, but it just isn't sounding good with the new amp, which sucks, because I loved that pedal with my other setups. I am down to one guitar, a Guild Blues 90 w/P90 pickups. What dirt pedal would you guys recommend for my current setup? Something that sounds good with P90's, would stack well with the TAFM, and possibly be bass friendly also. The bass friendly option is not a deal breaker because i could just switch out the new guitar pedal with another bass pedal for bass gigs. The TAFM can cover some Muff tones, so I'd prefer something other than muff variants. Sooooo....suggestions?

The algal bloom is a great stacker and sounds delicious with P90s. You can also get it.in bass bloom form if you're going to use it with a bass

P90's + Fuzz = the only fuzztone I use
Seriously I feel like P90s make fuzz sound the way it's SUPPOSED to sound. But yeah, I blow my load every time someone mentions P90s, like I'm the only one who ever uses them! I've just never played any other pickups that cut it.

Depends on what your going for but if I were you I would use a Way Huge Swollen pickle boosted by a Ts9 tubescreamer for lush tonefull fuzz rock or if your looking for something more agressive check out Rat clone fuzz pedals. They will bring the pain.

Just put a neck Phat Cat in my Telemaster. Still debating if I like it or not. Something just seems a little off

Tubescreamer??? Are you one of them trollz I've been reading about in the General Discussion section? (All the poor girl wanted was her coat back, it did have sentimental value you know
) But seriously though, your suggestion of a Rat may be the answer, has anyone used a Rat Tail with P90's?Good B/S/T dealings with: univalve, DannDubbleEwe, Shish, ThePastRecedes, GiAnt_ROboT, chutneyfarmer, Muse FTW, robapov, skullservant, MaxMaps, psychedelicrelic, guitarslinger21, space6oy, theshoegazer, bongoben, osbornkt

I know you said fuzz, but I think you should put either a reverb or a rat there. Something like a rrr or a wet would probably work well. I think a rat would work really well there with p90's.

P90s plus a RAT equals pure evil. Just ask Greg Anderson if you don't believe me. Also, I noticed that both guitarists in JAMC were doing the p90 fuzz thing when I saw them, and it sounded so clear and defined, but stil super gnarly and destructive.

RRR + P90's has been confirmed as awesome. Going to try a RAT tonight myself, although I actually found 90's a miss with my Muff

Yeah, that's how the Tone Reaper used to sound and what I was looking to get back to. P90's have been my pickup of choice for a while now and they sound amazing with the natural OD and distortion of the H&K amp. I just need to up the ante a bit and it looks like a Rat is the frontrunner so far.

You know what sounds good stacked with the TAFM? Distortions. I agree with the Rat suggestion. I have an LED-clipping distortion that sounds absolutely huge with the TAFM.

I use a Musket and a Mantra with my P90 and both sound damn good. The trick for me is providing enough bass (my preferred term is 'girthiness') underneath. Generally just a pushed p90 to me sounds like all high mids and treble which need to get evened out.
