yah. it just makes the lower B string longer and the higher C string shorter so you can have the same (relative) tension across each string. makes it all the strings feel like bass strings and sound like bass strings. instead of getting a floppity B and a guitar'y C.

WOOT.

Ash body, burl walnut top. The grain is SIIIICCKKKK, it has to be seen in person.

I need to take better photos of it.

I think it's an oil rubbed finish. It might have a wax mixture as well. It feels incredibly similar to my MTD's.

Same here. LOVE the feel.

I'm pretty sure Rob Elrick uses oil as his standard finish, but the back of the wenge neck feels SOOO silky smooth - almost like there's a little sumptin else goin on.

So... Does anyone know approximately how much it would cost to get a bass defretted? I'm really interested in a fretless, but there aren't that many out there and I don't want to drop $300 on a Warmoth.
This is more out of curiosity than anything.

Try an SX?

I did it myself on an old bass and it turned out great! Take your time and it will be easy!

I've had an SX guitar and liked it well enough, but I don't like the headstocks on the new ones (shallow, yes). I know I could do it myself, but don't want to deal with it in an apartment and don't have the tools.

Do you mean there aren't that many fretless basses? Or not that many fretless necks?

Are you sure you want to take a fretted bass (that I'm assuming you like) and permanently defret? You can do it yourself, but it takes time and patience.

Not many fretless basses. I should clarify that I'm not really into the more "futuristic" basses. Just a plain ol' Fender guy.

And the permanence wouldn't bother me. All or nothing. Unless there were some good fretless necks out there besides Warmoth.

Personally I'd just keep an eye on TB, ebay, and craigslist. They show up fairly regularly and there are plenty of good deals to be had.
