Fender VMs

Post by Blurillaz »

Anyone tried these yet? I'm looking for a cheaper Head or Combo, and was wondering how these size up to some others. You can recommend cheaper tube amps too (New or Used preferably under $600)

I haven't tried them yet...but fuck those new hype amps, really ( I'm not saying that they can't be good, mind you!)....just get a nice old bassman,SF or BF (i use the '65.BF piggyback),get it serviced and you're ready to rock.IMHO,it doesn't get any better than that, for pedals...and you save your money...just be patient, and look around for one of those head/2x12 cab amps. :thumb: :thumb:

EDIT:OMG dsp effects on board....

No,No and No... :poke:

You should take a look at the VOX Night Train head.

Otherwise, I agree --- you can find a lot of used old-school fender stuff that blows away what the new stuff does.

Nice, I'll keep my eyes peeled for some old fenders lurking about.

I've recently tried one of those new Fender Supersonic amps and it was great. It's clean channel is based on the old vibroluxes (which, when clean, sound better than any Twin Reverb I've ever tried) I think, and it's pretty nice sounding, great sustain and for $600 I think it's a fantastic amp. There's also the Blues and Hot Rod Deluxes which are get you a very nice classic clean Fender sound with a modern twist (good for garage rock, indie etc.). I've only ever tried a '59 Bassman so my experiences with them are limited but it sounded a lot darker and bluesier than most Fender tube amps IMO.

I played those "Deville" reissues for a while. They are OK amps, but I wouldn't get too excited about them.

You can certainly get a ballpark of the classic "fender" sound, so if that's all you are looking for you're good -- but it isn't exactly going to blow anyone away.

The gain channels sound very artificial; more like a cheap pedal than a real tube-driven OD.

If your going to search out some used stuff, you might want to check out some old-school Ampeg Reverb-Rocket gear. That shit WAAAILS!!!!!! (may get out of your price range, but sometimes they go for cheap).

I'm also a big fan of old-school Gibson amps like the Falcon. IMO very underrated gear that has always been cheap on the second-hand market.

My Music Go ROund has one of those gibson amps, except its pretty beat up and has wires poking out of it and such... Otherwise I would get it. :idk:
