maybe I'll run a multimeter on the taps and see how much its putting out. I am running two pedals on my "high current" taps that are supposedly rated for more than the provided 250ma they put out. My el capistan and the new whammy, both supposedly pull 265 or something.

i bought a fuel tank jr earlier this week, and when i plugged my RRR into its own spot i got a loud humming when the pedal was engaged. tried it on a daisy chain and got the same thing. ended up powering the RRR on its own with just the one spot. any ideas why im getting the humming?
Absolutely, it's all of the stuff we've talked about it in here.
The Fuel Tank is notoriously noisy, very low current output, and isn't actually isolated, just a bunch of regulators. Did you unplug everything else that was plugged into the Fuel Tank at the time? On a power supply like that it's really easy for pedals to interfere with each other. In the RRR manual I say the pedal needs 50mA but it's a mistake it needs over 80 at 9VDC, making it really close the Fuel Tank's rated output, especially if anything else is being powered.
Same thing as always with daisy chaining, that's the whole issue with it. Digital pedals and pedals with timing signals and pedals that need a lot of current can't usually be daisy chained without hum... you hear reports of it working like in here, but believe me, I hear way way more reports of it not working.
wish i had done a little more research on fuel tank jr :/ now. its fine on the one spot so im going to leave it there for the time being. im at my parents house till i think tomorrow at the earliest so ill figure out eveyrthing. unexpectdly bought a few pedals since getting the fuel tank so ill still need the one spot. will post when i figure it out.
Right on, Patrick, keep me posted! I'd start by unplugging everything from the Fuel Tank except the RRR and see if it's noisy, try all the outputs. If it's noisy with the Fuel Tank regardless then it's possible you have a noisy fuel tank or it's possible you have a noisy ground line where you are and the FT isn't very well filtered.
If it's quiet, start adding in other pedals and see if the addition of a certain one makes for hum.
Nothing will ever be as quiet or isolated as one pedal, one plug into the wall. That's the ultimate isolated pedal board, a power bar with a bunch of individual wall wart supplies.
So it could possibly be anything else on the surge protector? I have my iPhone or iPad charging off the same strip sometimes. Should check that. Can't remember if they were plugged in when I noticed it
That's a worthy experiment for sure! I personally wouldn't have any computer or mobile or wireless device being powered with my music gear, I'd separate it as much as I could. That's a good opportunity for some weird noise right there. (you ever play guitar with your iPhone in your pocket, behind your guitar?)
iPhones put out a crazy amount of noise.. it comes through pickups easily, crazy beeps and bloops, randomly but frequently. It does it through my Mackie speakers too if it's within ~3" of one of them.
What happens when you do that?
