Behringer 302USB mixer?

Post by mathias »

Are they any good? They're cheap, have enough channels for the limited stuff I need to do (mostly mix attenuated amp headphone signal and laptop signal together so that I can play along with music and record my amp) and they do the USB audio interface thing. Oh, and the mic preamp, which I'll probably use once I get to the point that I buy a microphone again. (building up my collection of gear after having to get rid of most of it in a move.) ((I also have a nice little ART tube mic preamp that I like, too.))

I realize it's not going to be the best mixer in the world, and the USB audio interface probably won't be the best recording interface in the world, but is it decent enough to justify the price tag? (admittedly low price tag at that.)

thanks in advance! all feedback appreciated.

I think if you saved just a little bit more you could find something WAY better on CL... I just saw something on your CL for $75 that would be perfect... :thumb:

Oh, does the Steinberg CI2 USB work standalone as a mixer? Because a lot of the time I just need it to mix two signals (attenuated amp line out / headphone out, and laptop audio) into headphones. I don't need the USB interface all the time and won't need the recording interface often.

Its usb powered, you don't have to use the software... Look at one of those Alesis Mixers or Peavey like Sherm said... I agree with his statement too...

I got a Tascam interface for $40 on CL that is just for the laptop but for $150 I got an 8 channel Tascam recorder that can be used as an interface / mixer too... Just keep checkin CL for usb and you'll find something great, guaranteed...

I've known a few people who have had Behringer mixers. They all seemed to have durability issues, usually dropping whole channels.

I had an Alesis Multimix for a few years. It worked great with no problems. My needs outgrew it.

I have had a Yamaha for quite a while now. I bought it used on Ebay. I has been rock solid, with the exception of needing the sliders cleaned once. My model doesn't have USB, but some of the newer models do.

Yeah the alesis multimix is pretty good, I had one for a while. It broke due to me using a power supply not meant for it though, so be careful.

if USB is not something you end up going for. the mackie 402vlz is another one to peep. perfect little mixer. i love mine.

mackie makes pretty solid shit from what i can gather. (the 402 is my third mackie, have an onyx820 fw mixer and used to rock the original cr1604 hard, best 16 channel for $100 or less)

I have one of the little Alesis 4 channel ones (ok, it's really a 2 channel mic mixer with a line in). Primitive controls, but stable and sounds decent and plays well with my other hardware.

I needed something that gave phantom power without paying a ton and thought I might as well go for a little mixer vs. a 'stick on the desk and ignore forever' ART-type preamp only.

It's not the greatest thing in the world but there's nothing really wrong with it either. Perfectly serviceable, nobody's going to point and laugh and go "That recording was done on a pile of crap."

I dunno, there's a lot of tempting about the Behringer thing:
USB interface, which I don't need need, but could use. I had the super cheap behringer USB audio interface for awhile and it was usable, just not super great.
$49
Mic if I ever need to record, as well.

Mostly, I'm just going to be routing sound from laptop and amp into headphones and mixing that for quiet late night practice + hearing backing tracks.

Ok, but the subtle undertones you are missing here are everyone being nice and not wanting to say "Behringer sucks ass buy anything else"...

Coming from experience... :thumb:

There are a ton of things that will do what you want and more, as far as price a used Mackie, Alesis, Yamaha, or Peavey mixer wins all days erry day...
