Haha. Step into my office.
How about we start with the classics that everyone should know. I'll go first.

Re: BLACK METAL THREAD
Can't say I enjoy much black metal, but a recent one that I really have come to enjoy is Deafheaven. Not true kvlt or whatever, but they sound damn awesome.

Re: BLACK METAL THREAD
*I'm going to NSFW all youtube links to save page space*
I like them a lot. Here's a youtube of the full album if anybody wants:
Deafheaven - Roads To Judah
Back on the subject of classics (I'm not going to be strict with a timeline or waves, just what I consider "classics" of the genre)
The Darkthrone album I would have picked is already posted below by fungalattack
Ulver - Bergtatt (One of my all time favourite albums of any genre)
Carpathian Forest - Through Chasm, Caves and Titan Woods (Couldn't find a full album link so here's just song 1)
Gorgoroth - Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam (A lot of people would pick a different album by them - maybe Incipit Satan or Under the Sign of Hell, but whatever. This is probably my favourite Gorgoroth album.)
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (or Filosofem)
Enslaved - Frost
Dissection - Storm of the Light´s Bane
Dimmu Borgir - For All Tid
Immortal - Pure Holocaust
Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Satyricon - Dark Medievil Times (or Nemesis Divina) (Couldn't find a full album link so here's just song 1)
1349 - 1349
Bathory - Bathory
Abigor - Verwüstung – Invoke the Dark Age (Couldn't find a full album link so here's just song 1)
Beherit - Drawing Down the Moon
Ophthalamia - A Journey in Darkness (or Via Dolorosa) (Couldn't find a full album link so here's just song 1)
I could go on for a really long time, but I'll leave it at this for now...

Re: BLACK METAL THREAD
And some modern stuff
And one of my all time favourite songs from a favourite album that I almost never listen to - the album is just too scary. For realz.
And some newer Enslaved
I'm more into death, grind and progressive stuff, but every now and again I dig black.
Ahab is not black genre-wise, but I'll be damned if their atmosphere isn't black.
And speaking of not black, this is epic more deathy than black but whatever
This is slightly more black, and despite the stupid lyrics they are rad
And of course... Deströyer 666 - EPIC! Thrashy!

Re: BLACK METAL THREAD
I'm really REALLY into one man black metal projects.
Leviathan: Summoning Lupine
Striborg: The Epitome of Misanthropy
KTL: Live In Krems
Nekrasov: Disillusion
Gnaw Their Tongues: Broken Fingers Point Upwards In Vein
Craft: Earth a Raging Blaze (2 piece)
Antediluvian: Under Wing of Asael (2 piece bestial black metal, current raining champs for my playlists)

Re: BLACK METAL THREAD
Some more one man stuff:
Mirrorthrone - Gangrene
Old Man's Child - Ill Natured Spiritual Invasion
Ihsahn - AngL
Caina - Temporary Antennae
Gallowbraid - Ashen Eidolon
Surachai - Plague Diagram
Woe - Quietly, Undramatically (Isn't one man any longer but was at the time of this recording, although the remake of this album with a full band I think is better)
Alcest - Écailles De Lune
Ruins of Beverast - Rain upon the Impure
Coldworld - Melancholie²
Forest Silence - Philosophy of Winter
Heretoir - Heretoir
Panopticon - Kentucky
Sombres Forêts - Royaume de Glace
Taake - Noregs Vaapen
Again... I think that's enough for now... I'll leave some for other people, lol.

I'm really torn on Caina. I totally dig how he's infused post rock and black metal, but sometimes it just throws me off
But I REALLY like the concept of it. A LOT.

Re: BLACK METAL THREAD
Been liking a lot of the newer American stuff recently. It's farther removed from some of the more unsavory aspects of the second-wave stuff, i.e. nazism and general fuckery. I think the music of Burzum is incredibly original and genre-defining, but its hard for me to listen to sometimes because of what I know about Varg Vikernes.
Filosofem is a kickass album though. So harsh and unforgiving.
Ash Borer-
Wolves In The Throne Room-
Xasthur (even his most recent stuff)-
Here's a bit of Iranian black metal that is so fierce and heavy that I can hardly listen to it all the way through sometimes.
Halla-
Nortt is probably one of my favorite acts ever in the genre. He mixes black metal and a funereal sense of doom together into a slow morbid crawl. His first demo is my favorite of his, with absolutely hellish screeching guitars blaring over synths and apathetic drums with really stark synth melodies. He's got these vocals that sound like a dying dragon trying to breath fire...\m/

Under the sign of the black mark is still the blackest of all black in my opinion!
