Rack Reverb

Post by CaptainWampum »

Hey, so I'm strongly considering picking up some kind of classic rack reverb like a quadraverb or midiverb ii, problem is I run an AC15 with no effects loop, and I generally like reverb at the beginning anyway. SO, my question is really just if any of you have experience running rack units into the front of an amp, how you did it, and how it sounds. Experience with these specific models particularly appreciated. Thanks doodz. :)*

I used to run an alesis midiverb 4 into the front end of a shitty fender solid state amp, and it sounded great! Make sure you tame the overall output of the unit though, those things can get kinda loud in my experience and will drive your amp a bit harder if you're not careful.

You should totally get the midiverb 4, it's an amazing unit. So many crazy sounds.

I had a midiverb iv. Ran it in front of my tiny terror. Loved it except, for the menu diving and not having a midi controller to select thorough presets faster. Had it in a 4 space gator rack stuck bettween head and cab. Routing wasn't bad, board to midi verb to amp.

I'll probably get a midi controller eventually. But sweet! I found a midiverb II for 30 bux so now that I know it's safe I'll probably jump on it.

But if anyone has had any negative experiences with this please gimme a heads up.

Yep just set the levels correctly... The Midiverb II is 16 bit so in front of an amp you might get some artifacts or "grunge" if you run it hot... I've used all kinds of racks in front of amps and it almost always great... I still keep an Ensoniq DP4 around cause they spent so much time and money trying to make it awesome that even 20 years later the presets aren't really dated... Look for a Yamaha SP or a Lexicon rack if you want just verbs...
