11 transistors? can some1 plz point out the important ones?

Post by AC128 »

just by looking at the PCB with no schematic? :D

I know, probably impossible, but I thought I ask.
It's a Ken Multi MFZ-7 Fuzz (aka Monarch MFZ-22 and Aria MFZ-1 among others...) from effectsdatabase.com

Just just bought another one (this time the Monarch) to mod. I was thinking about swapping the Q1 & Q2 transistors or Q1-Q3 transistors, and didn't suspect 11 of them hiding in there...
Is there any way to figure out the 'important' ones?

thanks.

Good chance that if they're in there, they're important :p

Give us a shot of the other side!

Also, what are you trying to do, by changing those transistors?

hey,
thanks for answering :)

like I said, I already have one of those fuzzes and like it a lot. What I'd like to achieve with a mod is a slightly different tonality, something that would work nicely when doubling tracks and panning them hard left & right.

thanks

I'd look more into changing other components. Input and output caps, maybe add some bias controls

Have you tried tweaking that trim pot?

the trimpot is wonderful.
default is in the middle, turning it to one side chokes the signal (I like that a lot for tight riffing) turning it the other way adds sustain and gain - great for soloing with the neck SC.
This must become an extra control.

Yeah, I think transferring internal controls into external controls is the awesomest.
