Yap, it's Bukowski's blue one. Regular ol' Memory Man not Deluxe. I want to use it with short delay times, but hope I can get at least 300 usable ms.

For the rest of my delay needs the DL8 is unbeatable.

Cool! Those are definitely the sounds it does best so I think you should be super happy with it unless a bit of noise and volume drop really bother you.

I think a true bypass loop would cure the volume drop though. It's kindof a silly design.. It's like they gave you a boost input option to compensate for the volume drop, but since the bypass signal is equally boosted you still get a volume drop but each level is just higher than before

If you really have a problem with the volume drop, I can make you a true bypass loop with a controllable boost when you turn it on so you can make it true bypass and dial out the volume drop with your rig. I'd do that super cheap for you to hook a brotha up if you think you need that to enjoy the pedal

The short delay times are really a lot better than any other delay I've used though

I've loved my DMM since the aearly 90s and just recently figured out how to love it even more. Get a TB loop on that shit. Dial in your matching levels and go. Plus it takes the strain off the sheet metal box.
Glad you didn't get a Capistan. There was something missing that I couldn't put my finger on. Fake dirty, if that makes any sense. As said before, cool setup, just underwhelmed. RE-20 did it for me for ages, and now I finally got an RE-150. Which makes the fake dirty even faker.

You're right the volume drop is mostly present when the blend is at 50/50. The noise really depends on the outlet and rest of your setup I think. It was really noisy at my house so I'm glad you're not having problems with that.

I love it. It's the best delay I've ever had. I only have a few beefs with it.

1. When you tap in a new tempo, all your trails are just cut off. They said they did it so that when you tap a new tempo in, the delay doesn't go wacky with oscillation. But I would have preferred that to a cutoff. Or maybe to keep your old trails going in the old tempo and then your new trails in the new tempo. That said, it's impossible to do on the fly adjustments when your delay needs to be on.

2. You can hear the "random" modulation when you crank the repeats up and have a very very short time. It's kind of like two shallow sweeps and then a deeper one. But it's a computer, not tape so what can you expect.

3. To me, a more hifi looper would be more useful but sound on sound mode is emulating a tape delay feature and it sounds awesome. It's just not always what I need. But I'll get a dedicated looper eventually. But the sound on sound goes great with the rest of the pedal.

Other than that, I'd say it's nearly perfect. It's very fun. For the record, I keep it on real dirty, modulated "old tape machine" settings. The reverb is a nice touch.

I know this is an old thread, but just to add it to the mix in case anyone else stumbles upon this thread:

I am on my second El Cap, I sold the first due to this issue, and I am still deciding what to do about the one I have now.

Basically I find the tap tempo switches on these to feel nasty, and be unreliable. You really have to hit it hard, or it won't work, and even when you go, sometimes it will not register and when this happens, the delay time automatically goes to a minimum slap-back length. It's fucking annoying. Soundwise, I still like the tone of my Carbon Copy better, just feels more natural and fuller sounding. But the feature set of the El Cap (the hold function is really useful for me) is the main reason I would keep it. But I dunno what I will do... Ugh

I think I might need to get a tap tempo modded Carbon Copy or something. Otherwise I am gonna say fuck it and just use my boring old DD20. Either that or I will buy another MLjr. Too many choices. None of them perfect. I think the MLjr might be the best all round for me. Nice repeats, modulation and super reliable tap tempo. Only downside is no tone shaping abilities. I mean you don't really NEED them as the repeats are nice, but it could be handy.

I've had the El Cap since new and never used the tap... If you play a chord and turn the time you can tune the delay like in the olden days...
