Just tell ebay what happened, if he complains i'm pretty sure they'll side with the person that has more than 0 feedback (unless you have really bad feedback which I doubt) then if you get negative, ask to have it removed and keep the money, you described it properly and it's not like it doesn't work so tough shit to them, they got what they paid for and hopefully ebay backs you up as they've commited to buy, unless it's within the 7 day period that you have to refund and they have to ship it back (which if they have to ship it back they'll probably just drop it)

Urm it might be optional think it is... Or it may be EU/Uk law, I thought that it was enforced now although I can't remember as I probably just skip pass it to save hassle if their is an option...
If their isn't a returns policy section on your listing then don't worry about it, but check out consumer rights on e-bays info.
Actually i'm almost definite it's EU law

not positive, but i think the return policy works only based on what you specify when you setup the auction.

had some pretty gravy experiences overall but i've never sold anything on ebay either; however, i do think that is/was a mistake to only let buyers leave negative feedback.
i kind of just found out about iOFFER or whatever. not sure if it's any good but there definitely needs to be some competition/alternatives w/ respect to the online-auction market. instead of the current ebay monopoly.

That sucks, and that buyer is an ass. Contact ebay. As scruffle said they usually side with the person with better feedback and a longer history. And the return policy is determined by the seller when the auction is listed, there is no ebay imposed policy.
I just went thru a similar thing, well, kinda the opposite.... I won a pedal off a guy that had minimal feedback, and all as a buyer. I got it super cheap, I'm sure he was expecting way more for it. After I won, and paypaled, the guy flaked out on me, said it was "broken" and didn't have time to deal with it b/c he was leaving the country. WTF. When I asked for a refund he said he never got the money. 'nuff BS. I contacted Paypal first, then they gave me an ebay # to call. I told ebay the whole story, they even tried to call the seller on the phone right then and there but they couldn't get a hold of him.
But they sided with me partly b/c of his low feedback (his 5 vs. my 200 all positive) and said they'd "take control" of the auction and return my $. It was back in my account in a few days. One side note: by accepting the refund I couldn't leave negative feedback. bullshite, but I just wanted my $ so.
The guy on the phone told me this is a new dispute system ebay is rolling out.... you actually speak to a human and get faster results. It worked for me, but again, I was the buyer not the seller. I don't know if the seller (you) can initiate a dispute but I'd try to contact ebay and beat the guy to the punch. Either way I think if you disclosed the condition in the listing of the item you should be OK.

Then why wasn't he using it... that's something to question... had he been banned or something? Got in shit before from people, just cause he isn't a noob doesn't mean he's a good ebayer, that or he could have used someones account that wasn't his, even if it was just a friends... I wouldn't take that as proving anything and I also think Ebay has a policy against multiple accounts... so in that case you have fodder. (The reason for the policy I think was so that you couldn't bid up your own items etc. that's why I think there is one but check it out anyway)
Anyway overall it sounds suspicious, I would definitley go with emailing (or calling) E-bay telling them everything that's happened and seeing what they suggest you do.
