Rics use a TRS cable and a splitter. between the pj or jazz I would personally go pj. I split the pickups on my T-40 and running the neck PUP into OD and the bridge PUP into fuzz is fucking GLORIOUS.

Derp. Reinventing the Ric-O-Sound. Is it configured so that using a TS cable will turn it into a normal setup? In that case it's exactly what I was planning.
The problem with PJs is that there doesn't seem to be much choice in the sub-500 price. I guess it's between the LTD Vintage and the Squier Jaguar Special.

My main bass is a PJ. I find that I can overpower the P pickup with the J, but my bass is wired Master Vol/Tone/J pickup.

As far as in the sub $500, look for an older Yamaha, if you can. Between a Squier or my '96 Yamaha RBX, I pick the Yamaha every time.
