Germanium Choke Switch/Diode Selector?

Post by Moustache_Bash »

I just bought a classy gentleman's Algal Bloom (you may have seen it recently in the B/S/T, I snatched that shit up!) and it had a fifth knob for diode selection. I was wondering is this the same as the germanium choke switch that's offered now? Differences? Reasons as to why a diode selector knob is not offered anymore?

K. Thx. Bai.

Hi Mr. Moustache

Tom can give you the details...but this was a custom order with
3-way...standard Algal Bloom, Choke modded Algal Bloom, and silicon+germanium. I don't know if he ever offered that diode selector standard???

Ahh, yes. I was hoping someone else would chime in. Cause I couldn't remember doing this! Haha. :D I only did one of these...it's a rotary switch.

Well I've had a normal AB before, and didn't really bond with it. And....same story with this one. The diode selector is neat, though. Pretty much just gives you different headroom/gain structures.

I'm using it for bass this time, and I don't like how it deals with chords. I need something with more clarity. But, if I was actually playing in band (rather than a duo) this would be a rad fuzz for more normal bass playing.

I was gonna say....

stop playing chords on bass, problem solved...

but that's not funny...

so, I won't say it.
