SS/BS Hawk

Post by amnesiac305 »

I don't know how I got so lucky but Brian accidently shipped me a SS/BS Hawk and Tshirt which of course I had to send back. But I did get to try her out. I honestly was really not that interested in it before trying. There are just so many fuzzes. But I am quite impressed. I love the simple interface. No dialing in various shades of the same sound. Just boom and you got a kick ass sound. It seemed pretty versatile for what it is in my limited exposure to it. I found it reacted differently depending on which amp I tried it on - JC120, deluxe reveb and VHT pitbull. Unfortunately, I only tried it with a single coils on a strat but Im sure pickup choice would make a difference too. I found I could cop some similar sounds to my TAFM but without the need to dial in anything. All in all, for the money...its a steal!!

BTW, I don't know how/why I waited so long to try but the year 4545 is just wonderful.

Got my small HAWK... will post a vid maybe this weekend.

Any info on those switchs... what they do?

Here what I think:
1(top one) - invert overdrive/fuzz order (but I don't know which is which)
2(middle one) - left = gated, right = non gated
3(bottom one) - I'm not sure, maybe eq or something... on some setting I got weird gated synthy tone on the middle position

Lots of tone for a one knober.

So how sludgy can this thing get? And sludgy that's clear and semi tight? Or sludgy as in just loud wall of inarticulate sound.

I think I've read one to many TGP threads.

Hey, anybody tried HAWK in a feedback looper... I'm curious about that.
I'd like to know if the feedback is easy to control (like an AB-Synth) or if like some other fuzz if it only make a strident noise.
